It would help, but anything that does get in there will have a tendency to stay in there.
That much I do remember from when I had one on the maxx.
If I got the new era one, I'd cut alittle off the ends so the gap between it and the front/rear skid plates is bigger so crap can fall out.
I've come down a few times on rocks and put a couple good dents in my tranny case.
