Evening all.
So I recently picked up a cheap second hand maverick quantum xt (brushed). Ran it on the stock niMH battery and it was painfully slow, I figured it was partly a going flat battery and particular the fact it's a niMH brushed set up......

Tonight after work in decided to see what a 2s lipo would do, I made the little tab change on the esc to lipo and out i went, pleasantly surprised it was ripping around grass after a few minutes of full throttle fun, it suddenly went very slow, getting it back to me, it smelled very "hot electric" smell and the esc and motor where very warm.

Am I right in saying that the lipo has done the work of upsetting what I'm guessing where already dying powertrain??

Either way, I smiled and then bought a brushless motor and esc to put in it....

The electrical burning smell is fine with brushed motors. Brushed escs always get warm/hot too in my experience years ago using crappy Traxxas electronics so nothing to worry about on that but hey atleast you have brushless and should be faster now lol.

This video shows how old school brushed was. Still fun if you haven't driven a old school car around from time to time.

The smell and heat... heat is normal to an extent. Smoke, its not good when its coming from an esc. 🤣
Like 5 years ago I accidentally (purposely) reversed the polarity on my battery when plugging in into my Traxxas XL5 esc. Didn't care bc I switched to brushless already lol. Just wanted to see what happens lol.

For brushed stuff, if motor is under 190 degrees and esc is under 140, keep on running till the battery dead. (Or till LVC) Lol

Little side story.
When I had my tt02 that torque tuned motor was sooo slow. Wanted to try to fit a titan 12t spare I had. Yep nope that big ole motor, the esc couldn't handle it. Just some info I just searched up, tble 2s Tamiya esc is 60a continuous. Traxxas XL5 continuous is 18a, peak 100a. The Tamiya esc cut out within like a minute at exactly 120 degrees. Didn't have any other brushed esc at the time so I said whatever. Lol. I did have a 13t 540 YR motor, but didn't try it. Bc I didn't want to take the time on a poor preforming car. Question from the cheap seats out west here in CA about the video above.
Why are the treads on your rear tires oriented the way they are?
Most tractor treads I've seen have the pattern reversed from what you're running.

I can't speak from them. But back in the day talk was with the piint facing forward it would bite and throw it out the rear. With the tires backwards it pulls that dirt in and compacts as it pushed off of it.

I never researched it but notice I have nicer roosters with them backwards. I'm sure on the right conditions it can be helpful.

Update and of course, you guys where right.... the maverick quantum lives and has taken another bashing with the 2s lipo. Didn't get as hot this time. Happy bunny here.
