The fat viper is amazing. Only downside is the programming was a bit difficult at first. You have to plug it into your PC and download a programmer. My buddy swears by furitek and said he loves the on-the-fly Bluetooth programming.
I'm gonna start checking out options. I decided to start my mini adventure with a trx-4m. Mostly because I have a shop close by that sells traxxas, but they look like a fun choice for a start. Did you have to change your receiver when you switched to the brushless Viper?

The best rigs atm in the tiny camp would be an Axial 1/30 or the Redcat Ascent Apex 18. The updated SCX24 is decent from what I understand, as well.

The 1/30th Axial is their latest chassis design and they perform really, really well.

The 1/18 Apex comes extremely well equipped. It performs like the dickens out of the box and then you can throw a few things at it to really dial it in.

I have two TRX4M's, they're very spendy to get to a place where I feel I can comfortably drive it everyday and not encounter a failure or some limitation.

I have spent hundreds on my TRX4M's each, it very well might be over a thousand.. 😬

Yes, you will need a new receiver and remote. The TRX4m has an all-in-one esc/receiver.

I decided to start with the tx4m, but I think an SCX24 or the 1/30 Axial is in the very near future too.

I would second the Furitek motor and esc's, top notch, and super easy to program with the FuriCar app. Here is the Mini Komodo with Stellar trans, and Lizard Pro esc in my LGRP Comp Chassis. Its a beast.
