Slash 4x4 VXL with 3S LiPO

I just watched a You Tube video about Slash 4x4 VXL running 3S LiPO. The you tuber was suggesting that the stock parts on the Slash will not hold up when running 3S LiPO. Has anyone had a similar experience?

I ran its smaller brother, the eRevo VXL on 3s and he's right. Things like the slipper clutch, axles, diffs, half shafts, etc. don't really hold up under the stress. The engine also tends to get really hot, hotter than it should.

I had similar issues with the stampede 4x4 vxl running just 2S. The esc and motor ran hot, even with fans. The slider axles would pop off the yokes every time I ran it. Changing to 2.8" trenchers was a non-starter until I got MIP X-Duty CVD's. Then I started running 3S. I blew the center shaft apart twice at the splines, it would just split. Replaced that with the tekno big bone. I ran a v1 center diff with a FLM alloy cup to make it easier to drive, otherwise it was just a wheelie happy idiot. Then it was pretty good.

Was overheating on me even with a max10 sct/hobbystar 3665 3100kv motor when running in the grass for any duration with the gearing I wanted to run.

Then I went to 1/8th electronics with a 150A esc and 4074 2200kv motor. I put a HCG slash chassis on it to fit the motor/esc more easily and to help make it less twitchy in the air. I ran it with the 1/8th stuff on 3S for a while... now running 4S and 3.8" LP tires. I upgraded the diff cups to the HD ones with ERBE i-bars and inserts for the x-pins to beef them up. Now it's just silly, but a lot of fun to drive.

With a slash, the tires would be smaller and have less traction, but I'm guessing you will still have issues with the slider axles on high traction surfaces. Also, would be a good idea to get the king-headz spur holder that uses a larger bearing as with 3S, you will be spinning more RPM's and the smaller stock bearing will overheat/fail on you pretty frequently otherwise. If you don't run a center diff, also get the alloy hub that the bearing rides on as the plastic one will melt.

No ? Rubbish !!! I’ve had my Slash 4x4 vxl (LCG)
For about 2 years I’ve even ran it with another ESC on 4s the motor got quite hot the truck kept wanting to take off. But it was plenty of low end grunt. And fun .
I’m back to stock electrics , and the only time something has gone wrong is because I crashed it .

Badger, I have the Slash 4x4 and I don't baby it. I race it, jump it flip it, tumble it, you name it, and it keeps running. I have done a few modes on it, high velocity fan, led lights, bigger tires, body lift, you name it. It runs great with know problems.
