Keep blowing spurs for sum reason. The only combo iv had good luck with is the 47/17 spur/cb combo. Blew my cb awhile ago and bought a 15t cb, every spur gear i put on with that cb blows. Iv tried 47,49 and another and they last about 5 mins then stripped. I also noticex that diffrent combos mesh diffrently, sum mesh tighter and sum you can't get a good mesh. So I'm goin to my lsh tomorow and want to know what i should do. I will prolly go back to 17/47 cuz it seems to last, but is there sumthin I'm missing or should know?????

I heard to get the racing Clutch Bell, its vented and wont heat up and melt the spur gear which seems to be a problem... i lock tight my bolts but also use a vice grip wrench on the alen key wrench just to give it an extra snug! ever since then i havent gone through another but then again my truck's engine was shot and not very powerfull... but the engine never moved after that!

You have to set the mesh yourself each time you install a new gear/clutchbell. If you are and the mesh looks different it leads me to believe you have the wrong clutchbells. Not all bells have the same tooth pitch, make sure you using the correct ones.

Iv burnt through 2 vented cb's when i had my metal spur but also burnt that. I always re-mesh when i change my spur or cb. I guess ill just go back to the 17/47. Dont need anymore torque and has decent top end so......

I'm using the f4.6 engine and for the cb currently wrecking all my spurs, its the 15t hpi cb.

How the output shaft on the tranny? Any excessive play that may be creating the two gears to missalign under power. Something you will not see when you are setting the mesh up. There can only be one....... Gear alive after that. Could be some flex elsewhere that screws up your mesh when it's under load. There are the .08 mod cb out there that are close to the m1. It wouldn't be hard to get one sold to you unknowingly if you haven't been around both of them. I have a row of mod 1 pinon and on the otherside a row of .08 I have to "measure" twice before I cut whenever I am changing a pinoin out. Just a thought....

Oh, if that 15t cb KO's then next two spur gears, I might be interested in buying that tought little sob from you. So far the spurs are ahead 4-0 in my Savages fight log. I went with the plastic spur a couple weeks ago to give the CB a chance (and because the cost of CBs) and so far there hasn't been a KO on either side.

If your going thru that many spurs make sure you don't have issues elsewhere in your drive line, also check the bearings in the tranny to make sure there spinning freely, lastly check your clutch if your using aluminum clutch shoes they could be heating up your clutch bell enough that it's melting your spurs.

just a few things to check over I've had my savage for over 6 years and I've gone thru less then a dozen spurs so far with well over 40 gallons of fuel so far.

I'm running stock clutch shoes and I'm setting my mesh so there is juust the tinyiest play in between. All my bearings seem fine and my tranny is solid. Back to 17/47 I'm going. If i burn that, she is getting completly torn apart.

I can't upload photos. I'm using my iphone for the net.
