due to bending 3 stock shock shafts, i am going to have to upgrade to a new set. what i was wondering is which would be better, a set of big bore Traxxasa shocks or get a set of threaded aluminums. Also if i got the big bore, would it be better to go with blue or black springs instead of the stock ones. i do some jumping, but the track where i bash is pretty rough so would stiffer springs help?? thanks Steve

if i were u i would get a set of aluminum threaded ones. the big bores are good but u can't really adjust them. go and get some integy threaded shocks. i think they are like $69 of off ebay. or u can also get the Integy MSR4 Piggybacks. those are really nice.

I put a set of big bores with trinity heavy blue springs on mine.

I do wish I had gotten threaded shocks though.

IMHO, I think that other than looks, the piggybacks don't offer too much.

i had the piggybacks, and u can notice a difference. they work alot better on bigger jumps. that is the only reason why i got them

thanks for the info, i think i am going to look for a set of piggybacks, there isn't too much difference in price that the big bore, and you will get the durability of aluminum. one more question, will the trinity springs that fit the stock T maxx shocks fit on the integy piggyback shocks??

The big bores are aluminum as well. Just not threaded.

And the Big bore's come with Titanium Nitride Shock shafts, its supposed to last longer than normal shafts, the inside of the bores are also TiN coated to improve smootheness. Although i dont have a set of big bores, my uncle has a set on his rusty. They're VERY smooth. I've heard some problems with the Integy MSR4 Piggybacks, the main problem being leaking. But thats only from a hand full fo people, a lot of people say the integy's are great though.

hey Robmob & SDMaxx thanks for the info, the web link was very helpful and I didn't know that the big bore shocks were aluminum
:thumbup i am assuming the trinity springs will fit on the big bore shocks also? .anyway your info was very helpful Thanks Steve

I have the big bores with trinity blue springs and i put 65 wt shock oil in and they are great! i havnt bent any shafts since and before i bent 2 stock ones.

bforum: do you use all blue springs or just 4, i was thinking of using 4 black springs and 4 red ones

thanks bforum, I stole a set of big bore shocks from ebay yesterday. ended up paying 55.00 and free shipping!! I am going to try 4 black and 4 red springs to start, may switch to 4 black and 4 blue. Thanks again Steve

When i ramp, I bottom out pretty bad. I am running the stock shocks, i think they are referred to as pro shocks in the part list. But they are plastic housings with plastic caps on both ends. I am running 1 stock orange spring and 1 extra heavy black trinity spring on all 4 corners.

My friend has the exact same setup, but has the integy piggy back shocks, and his isn't much better bottoming out wise than mine is. So i didn't want to blow $140 on what he bought.

Any help would be appreciated.

i found with the piggybacks, that u have to have a good shock oil and the right springs. i ran something like 50w shock oil, and all trinity heavy blue springs. they didnt bottom out off of jumps, only my big ones. i really liked them. u can get them off of ebay for $95

Any idea as to what is the stock shock oil in the maxx 2.5 RTR? I had thought i read somewhere it was 40w.

I haven't played with shock oil much. Whats a good brand/weight for the maxx?
