Setting up new servo with issues

Upgrading my first scx24 gladiator, having a blast seeing the improvements. I have two questions that yal probably know the answer:

1. I cannot hookup the horn to the servo at zero. The teeth dont line up until I'm far to the left or right. Is there a way to set a new "zero" for the servo? (upgraded to a EMAX ES08MAii)

2. I still have the stock horizon electronics. The remote has trim buttons instead of a dial. I cannot seem to get the steering trim back to to zero. Is there a way to reset the remote so the trims are back to zero?

Are you sure the spline count of the servo and the horn are the same? If they are, then just use your steering trim to adjust it a bit to the right or the left until it's straight up and down. If the spline counts match, you shouldn't have to adjust it very much.

Not sure what you mean by this part. The trim button should run it through a certain range, with zero being in the middle. Unless the buttons aren't working at all, you'd have to clarify this problem a bit more.

It turns out the issue is mostly with the stock ESC/remote. I don’t know why I was trying so hard to make it work. Everyone talks about them being cheap, but I’ve never had an issue with the stock units on our tens of RC vehicles. Looks like this bit the dust.

Still annoyed that I can’t get the horn-servo-steering to line up perfectly. It’s the cheap plastic horn that came with the servo. It ok though, now that I know the steering trim will work on a replacement esc/remote.

Try grabbiing a different horn. Hot Racing, Injora, Meus Racing, and a number of others make horns that fit that Emax servo. The splines in them will vary rotationally from brand to brand, and possibly even within the brands themselves if the tooling gets changed out in the machine, as the rotary broaches to do those splines will eventually wear or break.

Yes, it's annoying to have the servo horn a bit off center no matter which spline engagement you settle on. This is why I always buy a radio with sub trims. This makes squaring up/setting up a servo so much easier.

I've also had two identical servos be half a tooth different from each other.
