How do u set the gear mesh right ??? i have a t-maxx if u lookin @ the truck from the front and turn the spur gear clock-wise it will turn then in 1 spot it will be hard 2 trun. if u turn it counter clock-wise it will turn w/ ease....

Out of all the ways I have seen and heard of, the easiest and most consistant way of setting gear mesh for myself has always been the "paper trick". Cut a strip of notebook paper and slide it between the gears. push gears together and tighten the scews. Then simply turn the gears and the paper will feed itself out. This has always netted me a perfect gear mesh and is very easy to do.

Hope that helps.

I second that!
You beat me too it.
Unless you have a lot of experience in setting the mesh, thats the way to go.
Just make sure that the engine is not turned on an angle.
In other words, make sure the gears are aligned correctly, not pinching on an angle.
Am I making any sense??? LOL

it still does the same thing when i turn it backwords and the front seems ok. is it supposed 2 do that when iy goes backwords ???

Check to see if you have a small pebble caught in the gear..like a tiny one.
Pick the gears with an exacto knife to see if there is anything caught up in there.

When pull the pull start the clutch doesn't turn over. is it supposed 2 ??? and when i turn the t-maxx sput gear clock-wise it still does that jump thing and is hard 2 turn backwords. but forward is fine. that paper thing is cool...

If your pulling the pull start and the truck is moving, you might have to take the CB (cluth bell) off, and look at your clutch.
Take the CB off anyway, and check to see that the cluch is OK.

No, the clutch should not turn when pulling the pull start nor at idle. Only when you give it gas.

I figured it out. I was Chillen @ the LHS 2day and i was talkin my friend who works there and he told be the spur gear shouldnt spin clock-wise casue of the 2 speed. and i had it right (only had the gear mesh 2 tight)...

Please tell me your LHS is a HobbyTown USA. If so, that will just confirm my suspicions about the info you were given.

Aside from that, glad you solved your problem.

Note...Here is how I do my mesh...

Setting gear mesh is very important to the longevity of both gears and the components driving and being driven by the gears.

Here's how to do the mesh check.
1. Loosen the screws that hold the motor mounts to the chassis plate (don't take them all the way out).

2. Make sure you have both spur gear and clutch gear on properly (since you've mounted the spur and the clutch is attached to the motor, you probably have little to worry about here).

3. Take the plastic bag that the spur gear came in (a ziploc bag will work just as well) and place one thickness of the plastic between the two gears.

4. Push the motor back into place so that the two gear compress on the plastic.

5. Tighten the motor mount screws (making sure that the motor mounts are as square to the chassis as possible...you want the gears to have as even a surface to surface contact as possible).

6. Pull the bag out. The gears should rotate freely and mesh together just right.

Hope this helps...

Beyond that liberal use of loctite on engine mount screws and making certain things are nice and squared up when you are complete should help keep the mesh snug.

After that, the only thing that can defeat your set up is chassis flex.

This should offer you another method for setting your mesh.

Y would my LHS be HobbyTown , USA ??? I dont even kno where that is ....

LOL...no worries. It is a chain hobby store that tends to give out less than correct information most of the time.

The two speed transmission would not inhibit the spur gear from rotating in any one direction. It might free spin more easily in one direction than another, but it should turn equally well in either direction.

o well it is harder 2 turn the spur gear clock-wise than it is counterclock-wise....i dont kno y but the owner of my LHS said it not supposed 2 turn clock-wise casue it can wear out the 2 speed...i can really care less about this....if the truck starts tomorrow and run like it did thursday and friday....ill be bak on cloud 9 again ....

If you are running a forward only conversion, your spur will freewheel in one direction, and drive the truck forward when moved the other direction. I once had a tight spot in my drivetrain, & finally pulled the tranny apart, only to find a tiny grain of sand in my internal gear mesh. Once cleaned out, it worked perfectly. It doesn't take much.

more detail and what part are u talkin about ??? the gear box ???

It has reverse w/ the 2 speed...

If you have reverse, then your not running an FOC (Forward Only Conversion), so count that out. In more detail, I found that a grain of sand got lodged in my internal gears, inside of the tranny case. Once removed, no more problems.

Ight ill take it apart 2day but I can't see nuttin' gettin' in there...

i asked a hobby town if they had a servo(they only sell traxxas) and she said we don't sell HPI servos here, lol
