What is the better choice? I am looking for a capable platform with stock and super high upgradeability.
Also you can vote above

the trx4m feels better to me personally, i have had a few 24, their ok screws are all super small, but its not bad atall
the trx4m is a little bigger, makes repairs easier in my opinion. i also just feel like the trx4m is the better choice.

but in 10'th scale i prefer axial over traxxas, but in the small scale the trx4m or ascent are my picks

Both have almost unlimited upgrade potential. I own 2 scx24s atm. They have been great trucks and have been built in several different formats. Both of mine are the short wb c10/jlu chassis and not the longer gladiator version. My jlu is currently a monster truck that is due for another make over.
By comparison, the RC ascent18 is the most capable in stock form.

This was the first configuration.

Man, a loaded question for sure. Several more questions for you:
Are you looking for more scale appearance?
What size, 24th (SCX24) or 18th (TRX4M)?
Trail or full tilt boogie rock crawler?

Both have unlimeted uogradeability as already mentioned. However, those two options are like comparing oranges and grapefruit. Yes, they are both citrus, both delicious, but eaten at different times of the day.
You can also put several hundred dollars into each one in upgrades...which can be a lot of fun.
Also as mentioned, for 18th scale, the Redcat offerings are amazing, and really not many rigs are comparing to their capabilities right out of the box. Especially the Acsent 18 Apex. The Apex is a little more up front, but holy smokes what a rig! No upgrades needed at all.

But back to your original question, if it were me, between the SCX24 or TRX4M, I would go for the SCX24.

well said bro ,

go look around and see if theres a body out there that tickles your fancy? that could also help you decide, picture how you want it to look. theres lots more for the 24's if only because they have been available longer, theres just a little more,
also consider the upgrades ( which you stated you do) to me are part of the fun, its whats held me off getting an apex, i want to upgrade it myself maybe its just me lol, i got the ascent10 and id put it on the line against any apex, i think theyd do the same but i got to rebuild and swap the parts myself for mine, and the apex while betterer than the normal, id miss out on the tinkering lol

I second the Apex. Plenty of aftermarket support if you want to mod it, not near the level as the scx24 but theres more upgrades coming out all the time. Luckily, out of the box there isnt really anything needed to get you crawling at a level that is on par with a very highly modified scx24, if not better.

The main question to ask yourself is if you're going to do a scale build or a high performance build.

If it's a scale build the TRX or the Axial are fine choices with endless possibilities. If it's a performance build I also stand behind the Apex.

Easy to get expensive with these little trucks and the Apex is crazy performance per dollar value.
