Have a new savage xl and doesn't turn well at all. In four wheel drive the thing takes about 30 feet to turn around, took it out of four wheel and now it takes about twenty feet to turn. Anyone know what i should do. Thought it would turn/handle better.

I don't have any problems with mine. Are the wheels turning all the way to lock where they can't turn any further? If they are there isn't much more you can do. If the diffs are somehow locked up it may effect it some, but not that much. Mine will turn around easily in a 10 foot space.

You can maybe tighten up your servo saver. I believe it has the adjustable one. Then it puts more of the servo torque on the wheels instead of wasting it on the spring.

I didn't know you could "shut off" 4wd of the XL... did you just take out the front axles?

did you try adjusting your steering on your controler? Theres that black stick dial behind the 2 trim knobs which can make it turn on a dime.

yes removed dogbones from wheels, adjusted steering on controller, and pretty sure i tightend the servo saver. Still doesn't want to turn real well. also it does turn the wheels to the stop. i still think it should turn better, any other ideas? wonder how much torque is on this stock steering servo, wonder if a stronger one would help.

Turning is alll about weight transfer. Remove the front preload spacers and install preload spacers in the rear. The tires play a factor as well, Tall sidewall tires tend to fold over under hard turning.
Are you running a good quality 5 cell hump pack? If you are using AA batteries for the reciever that will kill the servos torque. Do not adjust the servo saver past the HPI manual settings. It will cause the servo to fail.
The XL comes with a 120oz steering servo, it does a good job when everything is set right.
Toe out increases steering response, toe in decreases it. Adjust the front steering tie rods until the wheels are "toad" (lol) out just a tick. This will make the truck respond to steering input much faster.

Is that large turning radius under all conditions? Pavement, dirt, high speed or slow?

all conditions it doesn't turn sharp at all.

no aa batteries, 5 cell hump hpi and i use another 5 cell.

it may turn a slight bit better to the left.

Another question:
Is the steering equally bad in either direction or does it seem better going right or left?

it does turn a slight bit better to the left.

to adjust the toe out, how far should i crank the bottom of the tire out. any way to tell other than having one of those toe measure tools.

just get a large elastic band put it round all 4 tyres with the steering straight this will indicate on each tyre whether they are `toed in or out` and can be easily adjusted from that. Hope this helps (not exact but a good starting point)
