Hi I'm new to the rc hobby and i am having a few problems with my savage xl.

I can start my engine and it will run fine but when i expect it to move it doesn't and it just sits there sometimes i can get it running but as it keeps going it "stalls" with the engine running and doesn't move when i hit the break it shuts off then u can see the wheels spin to see that its back in gear i have no idea what is wrong with it please help.:\
 
I've gone through like half a gallon i can't really break it in properly cause as soon as the engine starts ill drive it for like 20 seconds then it stops moving and u can here the engine reving as u hit the throttle then when u hit the breaks u can see it go back into gear and then it shuts off
 
Unfortunately, it sounds like your having an internal OWB (one way bearing) problem that many have had as of late. You can contact HPI for a new OWB, but I'd suggest just taking the trans apart, cleaning out the two speed OWB with DA then put a light coat of 3-in-1 oil on it.

It's part 86087.

I'd soak the bearing (green) in DA and then run a paper towel through it and spin it on the towel to work the grease/oil out of it. They let it dry completely and put a couple drops of 3-in-1 (light oil) in it. Make sure to clean the shaft it spins on as well (red) to get any of the old oil off of it:

ok so i took it in to the local hobby shop and they cleaned out the tranny looked at the clutch shoes and it still slipped so what he did was he cleaned the tranny and changed the aluminum shoes with the plastic ones so it would catch easyer and now it still slips but not as much as it did its getting better with every tank that goes through it! also one question while i was racing with my dad with his savage x his remote would interfere with my car and vice versa hes running it at a #2 ferquency and I'm at a # 4 whats wrong?

what i was thinking that there may be a problem with the savage xls antena cord cause my cat chewed through it and we just spliced them back together? if so how much would that be to replace?
 
ok so i went i bought a new receiver and transmitter i got the dx3e i think??? cost me 110 so it ought to be good

if you tighten the slipper all the way does the issue persist?
 
yah it does it was slipping alot today but all I'm doing is letting go of the throttle and it stops i might take apart the tranny again and clean it up once i get parts to fix my front right tire and susspension arms my dad crashed into it lol
 
Buy a 2-speed tranny of E-Bay new for 20-30 bucks and run it. The 3 speed never impressed me anyways. The simpler the better, especially when you are new to the hobby. Learn the truck with the 2-speed installed and send HPi the 3-speed back. Your hobby shop should have already called HPI and asked for a replacement if you bought the truck there.
If you bought the truck elsewhere, call HPI yourself and demand a replacement.
 
so ur saying i can call hpi and demand for a new 3 speed tranny?
 
If it is new and defective, then yes. Olds97_SS knows his monster trucks. If he says there is a bad batch of parts out there, I believe him.
I'd still pick up a 2-speed from E-Bay just to prove it's the tranny. owning a M.T. you need to keep as many spare parts on hand as possible.
I'd go thru 4 or 5 dogbones in one afternoon bashing my old Savage.

Geez... with that kind of problem, I'd have gotten rid of the thing!

The ol savage does like it's dogbones. Chews em up and asks for more. I found not trying to do back flips help them last longer. ;)

An email or a call should get you something. If nothing else, at least a new internal OWB. I emailed them once asking why I couldn't find the old school hex hub for the old dual steel brakes on their site. They replied with "Here's the part link, what's your mailing address?". I replied accordingly and a new hex hub was in my mailbox 3 days later. I didn't even mention it should be given to me. All I wanted was to buy one.

Modded STS .30, all it took was for the rear to loose traction for a split second then find it again, SNAP!! Lots of backflips too, that's what Savages are for anyways!:hehe:
 
ok so i got off the phone with them today and they are sending me a new one way bearing hopefully that will do the trick....
 
Glad to hear it. Personally, I'd take the new OWB and soak it in DA to work the heavy oil out of it, then put a few drops of 3-in-1 in it once it dried out. Will make it less likely to stick once installed.
 
ok so i got tired of waiting on hpi to send me a owb so i went out and bought one and since i changed it, it hasnt slipped once!! went out bashing today and now i have a new problem lol..... my truck can't turn right? i tried to reset the servos but it works and i didnt strip the gears so wtf??
