Savage xl 5.9 owners ??

Looking for info on this out of stock beast , I have the 4.6 I’ll be selling to upgrade to the bigger engine beastly toy , anyone with some history with one would be greatly appreciated THANX !

A friend had one years ago. I ran my Revo 3.3 with it... sort of. The 5.9 with the 3spd was FAST!
I do remember him having some trouble dialing the 3spd shifts but otherwise, beastly toy indeed!!!
Great vintage project!!!

I have one in pieces. When funds arrive it will be rebuilt. Some new parts won't fit the ood ones.

Like always , get the thing then finish what they started , I’m seeing tranny shim kits are a must to get it to shift right g to hen the diffs are junk metal , another guy had drive axle problems at the drive cup end , I love a challenge, ( redcat rampage ) but I’m just trying to get a clue here , great platform but needs a lot of help it seems

I have a Savage 5.9 XL stock and in mint condition in my collection.
I pull it out just to look at it every now and then.
Used it twice I think, when I was dialing in the 3rd gear.

Hi Fellas

So, my 4.6 Savage wasn't doing it for me, so I snapped this 5.9 up a few weeks back for $200 USD all up.
The truck looks like it hasnt seem much use, and is in great condition overall, as you can see, its not even dirty that much.
One issue though, rear wheels do not move, rear wheel drive shaft removed, they still wont turn
That tells me its not the gearbox, issue must be in rear diff, I am hoping its not dead, as I am not sure whether spare parts for these trucks can still sourced?
I was hoping it would just a "grub screw" broken/fallen out issue, as is common on these...

Yes, I’d love a build thread because I’m running out of parts and desire to build up another tmaxx or revo. Was thinking about one of these but, worried with the unknowns I’ve read about them.

It’d be a good resource for anyone on the fence. Plus, save them a lot of money.

I’ll be calling hobby recreational products today and talking to them about this upgraded transmission that’s available first off , then this tranny shim kit deal and the diffs that are made of actual metal , they are also available, then there’s the steering knuckles and carriers I want to check out , also I’m wondering about a lip switch on the servos , we shall c !!! I’m no expert though n this pictorial of my build , I usually order parts and when there all here I do my build in one day , what ever info or what ever you would like to see , edge ja macate me I’ll try my best

If you know a place that has hpi or hotbodies purple aluminum grab it. Especially the knuckles. They are outrageously priced and extremely rare.

I’d appreciate a tutorial on the upgrades. Like shimming the tranny, the upgraded tranny would be great. Just stuff that a guy that’s never owned one, needs to know to build a nitro that is dependable. Versus one you’ve got to tinker with when you do run it.

I tested the 3speed in the air & the trans did do it's thing, picked it up dirty as hell w a trash shell so I picked up a flux 1 and dremelled it to work along w a set of on road wheels for looks... Really hoping to get it out soon but I'm in NYC soOoOo no real spot by me to open her up...

I’m really no familiar with servos that aren’t for lipo power , what’s the best servos for the savage 5.9 , I really have no clue , thanx !

Never tried this brand , there sure proud of there ways of doing things darn artical of themselves is like endless on there methods and material studies is just nuts ! But I got a set for the upcoming savage 5.9 build , they swear they are a perfect fit for the savage , we shall see

I finally got some shims for the tranny , so here I’m showing where the shims are placed second pic shows where actually two shims went between gears , unbelievable how much movement there was dude to side , it’s absugulooooooly perfect now no play at all , now I’ll take it for a run and see if it will shift at all , never been stumped like this , now there is no reason it shouldn’t shift , looks like we could have a hitch in our get along on the 5.9 availability date , seems Force , who makes the engine used initially is going out of business, so they may be delayed even longer , been on back order since February, RRRRRRRATTS !!!!!

Well,, got it back together , still wouldn’t shift but it did stop moving but still running , I believe I found my point of ignerance , I believe, dam slipper was spinning freely , pad was decinigrated , I’m sure that’s why it’s not shifting, waiting on new pads JEEEEEEEZE !!!!

There’s a brass bushing that goes against the slipper gear that was not in the truck when I got it , after I figgered I don’t know everything and went to look at the manual seen it was missing from the start , got a slipper spring kit and the darn thing is shifting and wheeling like crazy !!! On another note ,,,,,, THE SAVAGES ARE COMING !!!!!, THE SAVAGES ARE COMING !!!! Since February I ve waited for the 5.9 version ,,,,,, THERE HERE !!!! It’s on the way !!!!! Now I just gotta decide what I’m selling to pay for it

I watched a video , all aspects rc you tube dude says the savage is discontinued!! ?? I just got a brand new one from hobby recreational products , do I need to stock up on parts or what ??? Anybody hears anything on this , I’ll be contacting hobby recreational products. Today

Its still listed on hpi website. There's a where to buy and no mention of being discontinued.

The last version was discontinued before this current one was released.
