Savage X to XL

That gets you the length, but not the width.

If you don't like wheelies, then stretch it out and it will tame them quite a bit. I've had a 1" extended savage and it was less "twitchy" than the normal one and my current X. I was running standard offset wheels on it and it still was more stable in general.

I do like the wheelies though, but miss the extra real estate for an alternate fuel tank.

the only comparison I have to my XL was the old .25.. I have to say the XL is a world of difference. You can use offset wheels to test out if you would like the extension, if you want to go that route first, so your not buying new cups and etc. IMO its well worth it.

If not you need 2 of these

and the chassis kit mentioned above... of course source it through ebay.

Plus the 3 speed kit to make it a true XL. If you haven't done it already. While you're at it might as well upgrade to the 2.4 system, unless you've already done that too. Not sure about the wheelie thing. My XL has no problems gettting the front wheels off the ground even with the longer wheel base.

i wouldnt go the 3 speed route, i would just stick with 2 speed. i switched one of my Xl's to 2 speed and like it better. better bashing, less headaches

also, if you want wider stance you can use Flux axles with offset wheel/tire combo, they arent extended like the xl axles. also, i would suggest the 29/9 differentials if you dont have them already they will hold up better.

i converted an x to Xl a few months back, and when i was all done, it would have been cheaper just to buy an XL roller(extended TVP,s, 29/9 shimmed diffs w/ 11mm outdrive cups,11mm dogbones, extended rear dogbone,3 speed tranny w/52t hardened slipper, and 11mm cupped long axles w/the purple extenders) off epig.if i had been able to buy all the parts from 1 merchant, it would have been a wash, but the shipping killed the deal

Why not the 3 speed? Mine bashes just fine with the 3 speed and what headaches are you refering to? I haven't had a bit of trouble from mine. I like the 3 speed that extra gear really lets you take adavantage of the engines powerband and torque curve not to mention the extra speed on the top end.

That is something to consider. It would probably be more cost effective in the long run to just buy a new XL. I know it was for me and I wound up selling my Savage X not too long after I bought my XL.
