I'm thinking about buying one of these kits would buy the rtr but i prefer aftermarket servos anways. was wondering what would be a good radio system and steering/throttle servo setup. I've never even drove a savage all my friends like their t maxxs and revos but I'm wanting something that can stand a beating thru jumps and what knot and a savages reputations meets what I'm looking for just trying to see what this is gonna cost me so i no when i can stop saving money

Not sure how accurate this is but if you buy the rtr it will have the bullet proof diffs compared to the older style diffs which are not that reliable. Add a tuned pipe and just replace the servos only, you might be ahead.

thats what I'm trying to figure out is if i should do the kit and put a radio system and all in myself or just do the savage x 4.6 rtr on towerhobbies the kit is 399 and the rtr is 464 which i would obviously spend a little more if i bout the kit but then i would be putting w.e servos i want in it but also for basically 70 more bucks i would get a radio system and would have extra servos after replacing the ones from the rtr model throttle servo is fine I'm sure but i usually always buy a new steering servo just trying to figure out the best route

The kit is nice as long as you don't mind pitting it together, it gives you the experience of putting it together as well how to repair it. The rtr gives you a decent radio just have to replace the servos and keep them a spares or wait until they go and depends on your budget.

I dont mind putting together at all, the rcs i have bought so far have been used and all have required some tlc to get them going currently working on a jato i got for 50 bucks. but I've never messed with a savage so it would be good experiece from the start and like i said i prefer to put at least a new steering servo in any truck i get unless stock servo is to my liking. whats the diff in the x ss savage and x savage. and also a couple good servos so i can price them and see what kinda money i would spend on the kit

I believe the bullet proof diffs only come on the savage Flux although I could be wrong as well.

I just use a cheap Flysky GT3B on my bashing kits. Its actually a good little system for as cheap as it is and there are several mods that can be doen to it to make it even better. If you want a high quality radio go for a Futaba 4PL.

that handle is a little out of my price range but that one will drive diff cars at the push of a button right

scroll down to the features and beside the differential the ss says it has a heavy duty one and aluminum case dont know if thats the bullet proof but ss obviously has heavier duty diffs from the feedback I'm getting and reasearch I've done plus features on towers site i believe id rather get the sav x ss

plus the kit would get me the knowlege of already haveing put some of the truck together

I did some pricing and for the futaba radio system that i would want and hi tec servos it comes out to 578 bucks and thats not counting shipping so i think I'm just gonna save my money and buy a savage xl seal the motor as soon as i get it run it till it goes out then replace with a better motor or i may just sell the 5.9 b4 even running anything thru it and replace with a better motor

I would go with the kit gives more knowledge of how the truck works and makes it easier for you to later on to diagnose problems. It is always alot more fun to build the trucj how you want it.:D

High Speed Low Drag:whhooo:

its kinda a toss up bc either way its gonna be about the same price and i mean i can go cheaper on the radio system but id like to have the futaba system and the more i read reviews on the 5.9 the more dont want one on my shelf when all i hear is good things about the 4.6 its gonna be one or the other xl or ss it will be a couple months b4 i start purchases

With the rtr, you can sell off the new items you don't want, then buy the items you do want....it's a win-win.

The kit comes with upgraded parts the RTR doesn't have, Id buy the kit, then Id buy a Losi 454 off of ebay for about $120 or so, then Id have Robin mod it, eventually buy robin tuned pipe for it, put a nice savox steering servo in it, and go with the Flysky GT3B Radio. A 4PL is way overkill for just bashing.

The Heavy Duty aluminum diff and the bullet proof diff arent the same.

why not go right to the horses mouth?

The futaba 3PM radio is a good, 4PL is more for racing. I pick up.a 3pl for 150 bucks and found one for 50 needs the receiver sent in for repair

Nice comparison. They changed up the RTR at some point....It didnt used to come with bulletproof diffs or fiberglass brakepads but apparently they added those in at some point. Why they wouldnt do the same thing for the kit is beyond me. Still though virtually everything else on the kit is better especially the engine so Id still buy the kit and just buy the BP gear sets and the fiberglass brake pads for the kit. maybe cost you an extra $50-$60 bucks. If you were gonna ditch the engine in favor of a better one like the Losi 454 then I guess the RTR would be fine too as most of the other differences are kind of small and can be added on later at some point if you really wanted them.

Its hard to compare MTs to Truggies thats a personal preference. If you choose truggy Id definitely go with the 8ight T. The other 2 MT options are a toss up. Theres pros and cons both ways and either savage in the end would be a fine choice.

Go with the RTR bro, bullet proof sintered diffs, nylon big bores, grey cooling head, orange anodized plates ect. Stormer hobbies has 2 in stock for $439.99. I bought one a few months back when it was $399 and I sold all the stock parts that I didn't use on ebay, I made $300 bux back :D

I went with the 4PL and Savox 1256/1257 Ti gear servos. 4PL has an awesome display, can't go wrong kinda spendy tho.

So youd rather have BP diffs (a $55 upgrade for the SS kit) vs. a better engine, polished aluminum pipe, adjustable arms, steel spur, and a vented clutchbell? The shocks are a debatable upgrade, and the plates are a color preference.

Your steering servo while adequate could have been upgraded to the Savox SA-1283SG for another $15-$20 bucks and got 417oz/in instead of 277 oz/in. Just sayin on the servo...
