I am getting back into the hobby and was looking at getting a Savage. I had an original T-Maxx before this. Which is better the X or XL? I have heard some bad stories about the XL engine. Just wanted to get some opinions. I am looking for a easily tuned truck for bashing around. :)
 
The xl is deff better with the 3 speed and extended etc but, the engine has had pretty bad reviews. The savage x 4.6 is a beast, I've never broken anything, and i flip and land wrong alot. The xl, is even more a beast, just the engine. If you want get the xl, try out the engine, if you dont like buy another engine, Or if you want before you run the 5.9 engine sell it and buy a new engine. OR GET THE x 4.6 Its a pretty good truck.
All in all, it boils down to if you want to mess around trying to sell stuff swaping etc or just want a truck thats runs! Up to you. Good luck

they're both great trucks, but since the XL is newer and it has new mods to it, and its more stable with the longer wheelbase
 
both are great choices. I would probably pick up a used roller and build it how you want it from there.
 
i dont understand why the 5.9 is getting bad reviews. i work for a hobby shop and have sold 5 of them not one complaint other than one guy couldnt tune it.(which i fixed) i own a savage x, xss, and a xl. if you have the money go with the xl but the 4.6 is still a bad azz truck. i think alot of the thing people complain about with the 5.9 is tuning issues. it has a 3 needle setup and alot of people can't tune these motors to save thier lifes.
 
Which is faster the X or XL? Does the extra size really help that much? Or does the extra size hurt the performance? I am just looking for a bashing truck, no racing.
 
I'm still undecided, my LHS has both available right now. The Savage X is $499 and the XL is $679. I just dont know if the extra 180 bucks is worth it. I mean from what I have heard the X is still a good truck, but then everyone says the XL is that much more of a truck.
 
the Savage X 4.6 is better for people with tight budget like me lol
if you save $180 on buying Savage X 4.6 you could spend that money on spare parts or hop ups or just save it for new engine when old one dies.
 
Well I finally broke down and got the XL!! I got the first "break in" tank of fuel through it, now I just gotta wait for it to warm up to run a few more tanks through it. Saturday in Edmonton is supposed to be warmer so I think that will be the day it happens.
