Sorry if this has been asked 11tybillion times, I searched and didn't see any good threads. Here is my situation.

I've had stadium trucks in the past and I'd like to get a monster truck for general bashing. I've narrowed it down to either a Savage (which I've driven and worked on and know is an exellent machine) or a Revo (I've never even seen one run). I don't race so all of the run time will be bashing with my buddies.

I like Traxxas' ez-start and built in glow plug ignitor, plus the suspension looks awesome and I know the 2.5r has plenty of power for me but does the combonation work as well as a Savage for bashing straight out of the box.

All opinions welcome. Thanks

Of my personal experience with the Savage, I'd recommend it to anyone. The truck is super tough and plenty fast out of the box. I've never ran a Revo so I can't really comment on that.

One that I'd recommend is if you buy most of your parts at a LHS I'd check to see what they carry. Most will carry lots of parts for both, but just to make sure. Unless of course you don't mind ordering online all the time.

For bashing only, most will recommend the Savage. The Revo will also take it's share of abuse. I have them both and have beat the snot out of both of them. They are both tough trucks and you really can't go wrong with either one.

Local parts support is important in case you break something and want a quick fix. I would imagine most LHS's would carry parts for both since they are popular.

Also, the Revo's EZ start built-in ignitor a runs the starter battery down much too quickly. Most just disconnect the wire and use a separate glow inginitor.

Almost forgot...Welcome to RCNT.

Thanks guys! Getting parts shouldn't be much trouble for either truck. I live an hour from Tower Hobbies and my LHS picks up from there everyday. They also have a lot of parts in stock.

I didn't realize that about the built in ignitor for the Traxxas', I'll have to keep that in mind. Right now I think I'm leaning more towards a Revo. Mainly because none of my friends have one and everything I've read about them has been good. I can pick a 2.5r from Tower Hobbies right now for a real good price. I just wanted to get some advice from the pros before I go and spend money on a truck:)

The first time you run that 2.5 with a 3.3 or a big block truck you will regret it. If you go with the Revo get the 3.3, it's worth the extra. Like Rob I kept the ez start but not the blue wire.

Both trucks are great, it depends on how hard you bash. Some people consider running around the yard/park bashing and other think if it's not airborne it's not bashing.....I'm somewhere in the middle and both trucks work for me, but overall the Savage is tougher.

No ish, I didn't really expect that there would be that much difference. That's good to know. How much more power is the 4.1 Savage over the older Savage 25? The 25 is the Savage I've driven.

I'm somewhere in the middle as well. Probably a little harder on them than most people. I used to replace a-arms on my GT every week from launching it off of things. If you aren't breakng parts then you aren't driving it hard enough.

I would suggest rpm arms and aluminum shock ends for the Revo if your going to jump it a lot.

hey russ, I am from Spring-patch so if you ever need some one to bash with, lmk, right now I am in Edwardsville at school. I believe that the 4.1 and the 25 have the same displacement, however the 4.1 motor had different porting so it makes a little more power, or just don't mess with it and getthe 4.6ss, thats what I did :)

I'll chime with a vote for the REVO (no Savage experience)

But take smaaxins advice and beef up the arms and shock ends as they go first.

I have had all that have been mentioned with the exception of a 2.5 soon to be on its way to me. I personally had a really great Savage basher that I really loved to run but let go. I had the 3.3 and I think I was too fast to let it go. I wish I kept her and not got all the other rides. Oh well. You will have a lot of fun with the Revo. I suggest getting stronger pushrods and and turn buckles. Even the Red ones from Traxxas snapped.I also concur with all tha say "remove the blue wire" and use an external ignitor. You will have a longer lasting EZ Start. If you bash you will want to look at a cage depending how hard you do bash. Lets see some pics when you get it!!!
