Hi, i just want an honest opinion on what truck do ppl like better, Savage or T-maxx. I really want 2 here from ppl, who own both or seen both perform, i'm a savage fan and have neaver seen a T-maxx, or any Traxxas run so I just want ppl's opinon on pros and cons of the two, I guess scince i own a Savage and neaver seen a T-maxx run i'll just start us off with that i love the savages twin verticle plate (TVP) design, even though it's harder 2 work on. so far i've heard that t-maxx it faster and not as durable as savage out of thr box, visa versa for the sav. that's all i know right now, so if you ppl could supply me with more info that would be really apprechiated.

well the tmaxx is a pos things break way 2 easy on it,stick with the savage,my nephiew has a tmax and i smoke his truck all the time

The search is your friend on this one. This question has been asked and answered more times than I can count.

As a former owner of both, I'd say the Savage is a better truck for bashing than the T-Maxx. I have run both through their paces, and have ended up spending more to keep the T-Maxx operational.

I would go with a Savage.I could not count how many times I have rolled this truck. One time I even ran full speed into a boat.(was parked in neighbors yard.)Anyways out of all the times I rolled it and crashed(wich I have quite a few times)you know how much money I put into fixing the truck?Nothing...and as for the fact that the T-Maxx is faster I think it depends on how you tune it.I raced my uncle who has a Megatech .18 wich won a race agianst a T-Maxx with a 21 BB, and I won every time. The only thing I lost to was a little Stampede...but once I shifted to 2nd gear I caught up.Also I have upgraded to a ribbed tuned pipe, and a high proformance airfilter. That basically all you need to have a fun time in your backyard.I would go with a Savage.(One thing to think about is that does your hobby shop have hpi parts?I know my hobby shop carrys a whole wall of Traxxas and about 20 parts of HPI.Somthing to think about. So if you do get a T-Maxx at least you hobby shop will have parts on hand :P)

not again:nono:

anyways I'm going to have to face facts, the savage is better than the
t-maxx. only after $1,000 is my Maxx as durable as a savage. My Maxx is obviously faster but speed isnt everything. With the amount of money I put in my Maxx(replacement parts included) I could have bought 4 Savages. Something to think about.

:) i already have a sav. it kicks ass, and my hobby shop has enough parts that u could almost take the parts list that comes with the sav. and go get all the parts and build one.

I completely agree with Vince.

I bought a maxx, it broke a lot. Within the first gallon or so of its life, I broke 4 shocktowers, 3 sets of front arms, shelled 2 diffs, blew the trans apart, ate up a couple spur gears, broke 2 gas tanks, broke 3 front skids (not the part that sticks up, the part that holds the front end on), 4 sets of front bulks, 2 sets of rear bulks, 3 stock shocks and I got rid of the 2.5 engine(it sucked). I kept a tally of what broke just to see what parts I needed to have on hand most. Unfortunatly, I almost needed a whole other maxx on hand to make it through a weekend.

As for my savage, it was a roller when I got it. No radio or engine. I've run 2 gallons through that truck and all I've really broken was the shocks, but they were aftermarket HotBodies shocks that came on the roller. Granted, the savage came with a few hop ups already, like the shocks, HB cvd's, 4 gear diff mod (thanks Sky!) and the duel brake disk upgrade. Other than the engine and electronics, I've done about $200 worth of upgrades to it just to avoid headaches. I bought lunsford titanium turnbuckles(Thanks again Sky), UE SuperMaxx shocks, New Era upper arms for t-maxx length shocks and I've replaced the fuel tank with a buggy tank.

I'm a basher only. Quite a bit of air (5 foot height average), a lot of grass driving, some minor hill climbing... nothing to out of the ordinary.

All the parts that broke on the maxx, I've upgraded at least once. RPM arms and towers, ACNCM bulks, integy bulks(suck, don't waste your money), SuperMaxx Shocks(kick ass, spend the $), XTM 21 conversion, integy diff cases, maximizer diff cups, RC solutions steel skids, RD Logics CVD's, Racers Edge Al trans case, RRP trans gears, buggy fuel tank, New Era Roll bar... can't think of much else, but I've spent a lot. Now it will make it through a weekend or two, but generally still needs some attention before every play day.

WOW... Sorry, I didn't realize I had typed that much...

I own both a MAXX and Savage and i would honestly have to go with the savage. I have only broken very few thing i could probobly couunt on one hand after very hard bash sessions. My maxx on the other hand breaks alot more than the Savage.

On the track the savage is nice but the MAXX is so much faster and also like how it jumps.

well, come to think of it, the only time I really BROKE something on my stock maxx was when it ran away and hit a porch at about 30mph. even then I only broke 2 A-arms. And the only things I broke while bashing were a few spurs and stripped the screws out of the rear shock tower. O and I blew the rear diff too. The reason I installed the conversion....well.....I was sick of that 1/8th savage bullying my 1/10th T-maxx.

I've tried to get a race going with three T-Maxx people in my neighborhood for 2 months now. The problem is their T-Maxx trucks are always broken. I let two of the T-Maxx guys drive my truck today, they both said that my Savage drives better than their trucks. I know that I made the right choice.

heres my two cents for all you maxx bashers, it depends are you a serious racer competitor if so the maxx is #1 and as for the stock 2.5 I smoke any tank(mgt, losi, savage) that comes my way because i know how to!now if you're a redneck basher which i tend to be sometimes, then the savage is great, a buddy of mine has one and yeah its tough but not race material unless you're racing all savages!understand i think
the savage is great just not a truck that can compete w/ the tmaxx in competition!!!!!!!!!

after hearing all of your responses, it seems that if i had a tmaxx, it would take 1000 bucks or more 2 make as durable as a savage, on the other hand, the savage can be faster with a new engine and a change of gearing, that's why i got the savage, the reason i posted this thread is because i wanted 2 c wat others thought of the two, it's good 2 c someone who went with the tmaxx, that way this thread wasn't answered by just savage lovers

What did you expect. You posted your question in the Savage Forum. If you posted it in the T-Maxx forum it would have gone the other way.

BTW, I have both and the Savage was a wise choice.

While the Maxx is lighter, faster and more nimble, the stock parts just aren't durable. Check and see how many parts RPM makes for the Maxx and then for the Savage. RPM only makes parts that they feel are inferior and they can improve on. Thats why there are a bunch of stuff available from them for the Maxx, but hardly any for the Savage. They feel that the stock Savage parts do not need improving and the stock Maxx parts are crap.
