HELP ME

i got my savage x yesterday. we couldnt start it then i am trying this morning and it still isnt, i have watched the dvd that cam with it they make it look soo easy help me please
 
What have you tried...and what is it doing? Do you have a FULLY charger glow ignitor?
 
After you make sure everything is charged and primed....but not flooded....lean your low needle a bit. Remember to keep track of EXACTLY how far you turn it in. Don't go past half a turn. Alot of engines are very rich when new, and it's impossible for them to be set accurately without ever being run. Check, or better yet, replace your glow plug too. If it is flooded make sure you clear it out good.
 
SHE IS ALIVE just done 3 tanks now need to tune it what does the screw by the throttle bit do if you know where i mean
 
The screw on the sliding part of the throttle is the low speed needle. If you had to turn it in to start it make sure you put it back close to where it was. The other small screw is idle, don't mess with it now. You will be tuning the high speed needle first (the big one). Do some research before you go too far. If you don't know which needle does what then you should probably go through the manual and memorize some things about break-in and tuning. What's the outside temp where you are? Do you have a temp guage for reading engine temp? You want the engine to hit about 200 degrees for break in. Hopefully it is and you're taking it easy on it. What did it take to fire it up anyway?
 
it was snowing when i tried to fire it up yesterday, i had the electrics on on the car turned them off and it took a few attempts but i did it. i dont have a temp gun wat if it is running over 200
 
If it's snowing then you really need a temp gun. You will have to turn your high needle out quite a bit, possibly one full turn, (more dense, cold air=more fuel). Also you should wrap something around the cooling head so the engine can retain a little of the heat that it needs to break-in properly. That's where the temp gun comes in real handy. It's easy to overheat when you do this, but you don't wanna under heat it either. The tightness that your engine has will go away some when it heats up. That's what you want, if it's too cool it will put alot of stress on the crank and crank bearings.:whhooo:

I also want to say that the temp gun is NOT FOR TUNING. It is only for monitoring the temps. Hope this all helps you, a proper break-in is crucial to engine life and reliability. I know how you feel wanting to run the new rig, but a little patience will help it to perform as good as possible.
 
Running a nitro in the cold is pretty rough on it. You'll notice when the ambient temp rises in the spring. It may loose a good amount of its pinch when it gets hot outside. Lots of people have older, worn engines that they keep around just for using in the winter.
 
You actually WANT the engine up over @ 210-220 for break in purposes ;-) If you are driving it, just go EASY on it for the first half a gallon or so. Slowly lean the needles out as needed to keep temps up. Once you get past half a gallon (just an estimate) then you can start putting a tune on it. You generally need to wait for the mechanical pinch to go away before it will hold a tune.
 
That's good if it's 70 degrees, but it's 40 outside. Partially wrap the head in something to get the temp up, don't keep leaning it to 200, you'll burn it up.
 
Very True. If it's cold where you are...wrap the head. Sweatbands work good ;-) Aluminum foil....1/10th scale tire foams...anything to hold the heat in there. I only had to wrap my head for the first few tanks. After that I leaned it out a tad to bring temps up and started driving it.
