On this site, there is a mod for the throttle/brake linkage, it is dated January of 2005. Is this mod still current or good to do on a Savage X 4.6? I looked at the stock linkage, and I don't see what benefit I would get doing this? Is this mod for a different or older model?? Was the old style linkage that bad? I like to tinker with and improve my Savage, but what would I gain from this?

You could do it on the 4.6. The advantages are that it eliminates the goofy servo horn setup that HPI spec'd on the savage. I did it on my savage 25/x hybrid, and it works just fine.

It also yields much better throttle response too.

Much better braking and improves throttle response. You loose a lot of brake torque with the stock servo arm cam setup. You will like the mod. Do it.

I have not done this yet, but I will be doing it tonight or tomorrow. HeatBreak you said it eliminates the stock servo horn......Am I missing something? In the instructions it does not say to replace the servo horn, so if I am not replacing it, what do I use for a servo horn?

I think I get it now...the Traxxas mod is only for the brake...it has nothing to do with the throttle. The Ofna mod looks better, how does the dynamite pro tune linkage work?? Is it than the stock set up??? Now m not sure witch one I want to do?, back to square one, I am such a procrastinator!!

I used the Tmaxx throttle linkage kit, bending the long piece to shape (using the old linkage as a template). Then I glued the stock horn into one piece (REMOVE IT FROM THE SERVO BEFORE GLUING!!!), drilled out the hole that the throttle linkage attached to, and installed a Traxxas "linkage barrel screw".

You could use a different horn, I used the stock one because I didn't feel like waiting another week for a horn to come in the mail....

Heartbreak, did you use the long arm in the Traxxas kit for the throttle or the brake??

I still don't understand something. With the stock servo horn, it piviots going from throttle to brake. Also on all of the pictures I have seen, there is fuel tubing on both sides of the brake rod, so when on the throttle, the brake lever does move foreward. On all of the mods I see, there is a single servo horn, so when you are applying throttle, the brake linkage is also moving foreward. If the brake arm lever goes foreward, it applies the brakes. So at WOT are the brakes applied??.......What am I missing? so many people say they love this mod, but I just don't get it?? Is it just me? Am I over thinking this?

Wrong; during throttle, the servo horn moves backwards. This allows the servo horns' fitting to slide over the side of the linkage that doesn't have fuel tubing on it (it pushes against nothing).

The ofna linkage mod is hands down the best mod for the money and will improve the throttle and brake response greatly. Also Byron the brake is applied when the servo goes forward and throttle backwards. It also eliminates that weak servo spring on the stock servo horn.

Do you have any pic's of your set up?

This is what I ran mine like when I had one, except I ended up using one bolt and adjusted the sliders a bit so they were both on the same bolt/hole in the servo arm.

I used dubro captured ball ends instead of z-bends. I had to make my own wires though out of threaded end wires I got at my LHS for a buck or 2.

I eventually used a traxxas pivot thing and a 4mm bolt and spacer with bearings for the rear part along with what you see above. Made for really smooth throttle movement. I don't have a clear photo of that though.
