I agree with Eddy. You need to tune it properly. You should invest in a small Duratrax hand held temp gun like this. I think I have a Tower Hobbies $2 off coupon on this item at home. The temp gun is just a tool, not a tuning tell all. You cannot only rely on the temps.

With a proper tune you should be able to rev freely about 20 seconds after you start the motor. When tuned right the motor should "load up" after about 30 seconds of idling. Get the motor up to temp and do a pinch test to check your LSN. As I said earlier, heating the motor with a hair dryer before you start it will be a huge help.

Thanks much for the replies. The HSN really threw me off because the factory settting is at least two turns too rich. Full turns. Then I open it up and see that debris. I keep cranking that thing down and I'm not sure where I'm supposed to stop. But I'm going to do exactly what was suggested and just keep leaning it 1/8 at a time and not give up until I start seeing some improvement. I'm getting a temp gun along with some other goodies on Sunday. Work prevents me from hitting up the shop right now.

Should the idle eventually jump to the full 2 cycle idle instead of the 4 cycle? Is that was is meant by "load up"?.

Nitro motors are very simplistic 2-stroke motors with very basic carbs and its nearly impossible to get a perfect tune at all RPM and load levels. If you tune a motor to idle perfectly for extended periods of time it will surely run very lean when you start to run it hard. You have to tune for your type of driving (and weather) and most people will tune for best performance in the mid to high RPM and load levels (that’s the most fun, right?). A good mid to high RPM tune will be a little rich to keep the cylinder well oiled and cool. This type of tune will run rich at idle which will cause the motor to “load up” with fuel and oil while idling and the idle speed will start to get lower and lower as the truck sits until the motor dies. That is why you see and hear people blipping the throttle when they are idling. They are clearing out the excess fuel to keep the motor idling.

Dial-in your HSN and then dial-in your LSN with the pinch test and an off-idle acceleration test. The low side tests (pinch and acceleration) should be done when the motor is clear of fuel and oil, not after sitting at idle for a while.

The videos on this page demostrate what a properly tuned motor sounds like:

Much better luck today =). I leaned it out by at least a couple more turns and ended up coming back another turn. I definitely want a temp gun because I'm too scared to push it without.

But anyway, was poppin wheelies in the grass and tearin up the parking lot at full speed.

Now I just need to find a place to BASHHHHHHH. Got some notes on that at home, but if anyone knows a location in San Jose/Milpitas, CA, let me know.

I also need to paint my body, but I never was too hot on looks anyway :D. Are there other reasons to paint?

Glad you had better luck today.

These little glow engine are a PITA sometimes. I usually end up with 1 to 2 turns leaner than what the book calls for. Still freaks me out. I guess they write it like that so new guys don't run it lean?

Get a temp gun. You won't regret it. Just another part of the "support equipment."

Good luck with it.

Contact SweetDiesel he lives in SJ. If you ever make it up here to Petaluma we can go bash.

Nope, paint is for show. Throw a few decals on it and go bash it! 4u2nv makes some nice RCNT decals that will make it look better! If you do paint it make sure you use paint that is made for lexan or it will flack off.
