for the past several days I've been tinkering with my rusty, so yesterday i decided to bore out the hex pins and and put 14mm hexes on there and some of my stock revo wheeles on the rear. with the HVB i have in there this thing went through everything i threw at it.

as i was cleaning it up it up to out it away for the day, i wanted one more spin with it than something electrical went wrong. so had a spare steering servo, i changed that, and it was good. had an extra battery, switched it out, and again it was good. the only things i dont have to switch out is the motor. which I'm hopefully thinking its not that, but so far everything working but i think my ESC is acting funny

when i usually turn on the ESC it turns red ( this is a XL-5 ESC) and doesn't do anything. so i usually have to hit the button a couple of times till it turns green and than i can bash, now all the sudden it just doesn't want to turn green anymore, and I'm hoping that isnt broke either. bit this is a big stummper for me. the ESC turns on but stays red, and i cannot get the motor to work

any help would be appreciated. and let me know if you dont understand what I'm saying either. i was just outside for about 3 hours in 100* heat tinkering with the car.

so plain and simple.....I NEED HELP! =]

Did you try to re-program the esc to the transmitter?

i dont have any instructions and my computer hates to run PDF files, think you guys could help me out?

also one thing i forgot to tell you, is i changed my Traxxas Tx/Rcx to Futaba 2 channel but that was after this whole ordeal already happened

I'm running the XL-5 ESC with the Titan 12T motor and i switch off between a 7.2V 3000MAH battery and a 9.6SHV 4500 MAH battery

and i just switched it to a futaba Tx/Rx but that didnt help either

if you guys could get my a site thats not PDF for directions on how to do this it would be a really great help. i can't find it anywhere

The transmitter should be adjusted as follows:
1. Set the throttle neutral switch to the 50/50 setting.
2. Set the throttle trim to the middle “0” setting. This adjusts the neutral position.
3. Set the Channel 2 servo reversing switch to the left position.
4. Do not change the position of any of the servo reversing switches after programming the XL-5 ESC.
XL-5 Setup Programming (Calibrating your ESC and transmitter)

Read through all of the programming steps before you begin. If you get
lost during programming or receive unexpected results, simply unplug
the battery, wait a few seconds, plug the battery back in, and start over.
1. Disconnect one of the motor wires between the XL-5 and the motor. This is a precaution to prevent runaway when the speed control is turned on before it is programmed.
2. Connect a fully charged battery pack to the XL-5.
3. Turn on the transmitter (with the throttle at neutral).
4. Press and hold the ESC set button (A). The LED will first turn green and then red. Release the set button.
5. When the LED blinks RED ONCE. Pull the throttle trigger to the full throttle position and hold it there (B).
6. When the LED blinks RED TWICE. Push the throttle trigger to the full reverse and hold it there (C).
7. When the LED turns solid GREEN, programming is complete. The LED will continuously shines green
indicating the XL-5 is on and at neutral (D).

If it's a motor where the top isn't revealed like this:

you would have to unscrew the whole case and bring the insides out.

It should look something similar to this once you disassemble the whole thing. You probably don't have to take apart everything to get to the piece at the top left. Where you see those two gold pieces are where the brushes are in.

there are no screws on the motor anywhere. but i can still turn the motor and that the brushes are intact, so that was good. so just on a whim. i took the Rx apart to find out the the reciever wire was hanging on by on microscopic piece of wire. so i whiped out the old soldering iron. cut the end off. and than solder it back on.

and Wala.....like magic its back in working condition. Thanks you RC GODS!!!! lol

ok after i fixed it and got it in running condition again, the titan motor took a turn for the worst. theres all kinds of little pieces flopping around in there.

i did a nice trade with a guy on here and got a few motors for my rusty. now i charged up my 9.6V 8 cell Ni-MH battery and took it out for a spin and i got a lot of smoke and a weird smell like something electric was burning. would this probably because of to much voltage from the battery? or is something not connected right? also the motor is getting decently hot to the touch.

Is it another Titan motor? If it's a different motor, it could be overheating because it isn't geared like it should be, and it could be because of the high voltage. If you saw smoke, go ahead and have fun because it's already headed on a downhill course.
