Hello everyone, I am new to these forums and very new to R/C, I am buying a e-rusler the first of april and need advice on motors and gearing, I plan to mainly use it on the track but probably run around the neighbor hood often, Basicaly I want it fast as hell, my friends all run savages and tmaxx's I don't thing the monster trucks are for me plus I can't let my kids play with a $500 dollar savage, I am looking for good take off and awsome top speed, please give me some ideas.

If you looking for fast as hell and durable get the NITRO rustler. Elec. won't be as much fun. Thats my 2 cents

Your kids can play with it too because it won't break as easy like other cars.

If you want some more information on the Nitro Rustler you can I'm me at MayhemRCZ

If you plan on going to the track for reasons other than to get parts. Meaning you want to race then the E-Rusty is not the truck to get.. Get a AE RC10T3 OR a Team Losi XXX-T,
The rustler is simply not a race competitive truck.
if you want a decent basher the rusty is fine but by most it is compassionately known as "THE BRICK" X

i can only say about the nitro one it its fast and durable but can't take out the steel lamp posts out side :(

but it only cost me 11 bucks to fix and it can be pretty fast just right for young kids my son is 5 and I'm letting him use mine

I do plan on getting a nitro car in the future, but right now the e-rustler is in my price range, This is my first car so I don't want to spend tons of cash, just want to have fun, I do plan on going to the track but not to race compeditivly (sp), just to bash with my friends, I am 33 years old and looking for a new hobby, my buddy just bought a rustler yesterday, I just want to have fun and make it as fast as possible. thanks for all the replys so far, keep them comming.:)

Ok well one thing you need to think about when you get a e-truck is that you are gonna have to get a charger and batts also so dont forget that. What is your total price range to get rolling batts charger and rtr truck? Or do you want to build a kit which I would recommend if its your first ride... X

Check these out before you drop the extra 50 on the RUSTY your friend will wish he was you after you get a better ride.. here is the order I suggest

Thats the order I would recommend all those before the E-rusty X

I am going to build the kit, $65 locally, my friend is giving me a controler and charger to use in the beginning, I would like to stay under $300 with truck and hop up's.

this is my first attempt at r/c, if I enjoy it I amsure I will be giving this to the sun and upgrading pretty soon.

OK, just scoped out the rc10t3, and have changed my mind, I want to get a kit and not rtr, so what is some good upgrades, Motor/speed control/ etc, to make this a fun truck???

make sure you get Radio Batteries: (8) AA batteries
Battery: 6 cell or 7 cell flat battery with standard connector.
Charger: AC/DC timed or peak for 6-cell battery

So you want a kit AE ? An AE kit is going to right off the bat cost an extra 75 bucks

Here are your choices not all of them are a kit some are artr almost ready to run you install electrics.

But even if you get the Sport it would be a great try to try out and give to Jr. then upgrade to a team kit later. The team has all the sweet stuff in the box..

But buy getting the basic or sport paying the extra 75 bucks for the ae kits gets you a BALL DIFF and Aluminum shocks those to things to add to yout rusty kit will cost more than the kit itself. You can do that but a rusty is not half the truck as an ae if you are gonna race.. it X

Actually I was thinking of getting the team built from tower hobbies, I already have access to a radio and such. and charger, so I will nedd batteries and a few extras.

That would be a GREAT truck it will run circles around your buddys Rusty .. Not you need a Motor an esc? and batts right? X

Listen to X, rustys suck, if you even think you might want to race it. The set up X recommended is a much better way to go. There are a ton of hop ups for the AE truck, and like X mentioned your friend will be so jealous while you are running circles around his brick.

Yes, what motor and esc would be good for not a whole lot of cash???? also need at least 3 batteries.

Ok for a budget minded esc that will give you some room for motors I am gonna say one of the new duratrax intellispeed escs you can t get close to these stats with out spending anoter 20 bucks http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXAXT8&P=7

If you got a bit more cash here is the next choice no need to go above this http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXPB65&P=7 the key is these both have reverse and reverse lockout so you can race them.

Ok now if Reverse is not nessacary then you can save a few more dollars here are a few choices

Ok dont get no name cells make sure the cells are sanyo, panasonic or GP otherwise you wont last long...

or
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXMM41&P=7

Last a motor if you want to race then a good 27 turn motor will let you run in the stock class... I recommend
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDDA0&P=7

so you basically have to decide do you want reverse or not? Do you want a mod motor or not and if so down to what turn.. X

Thanks for all the help, now I just have to decide what to order, I am thinking of the duratrax streak esc, reverse really isnt nessisary, I also might get 2 motors, the monster horspower, and what do you think of the monsters of touring 13t double, A guy at the track was running a 13t double last weekend and it looked pretty quick, how much faster would it be than the monster horsepower???
again THANKS for all the advice and help.:)

Well there is a diffrence between Modifieds and Stock Motors. Stock motors have more tourqe but dont go as fast. Now what you have to be weary of is a Monster of Touring is actaully a Car motor HIGH RPMS you don't care about rpms as much as tourqe in a truck here is the team trinity application chart http://www.teamtrinity.com/motors/motorchart.asp I would not suggest that monsters of touring line they are a cheap entry line of motors that does not have adjustable timing.. Now if you look at that chart for Off road modified they recommend some lower turn motors like a 8x2 to 12x2 which your esc is not gonna be able to handle stuff that low. I do not recommend running a motor as low as the esc ssays it will go on a entry level esc no reason to take a chance of cooking it.

Now what a good little modified motor for that car would be a

Hope that helps. X

OK thanks, all these decisions are hurting my head, but I really do thank you for all your time and effort, I still have untill april 5th to make up my mind on the motor and esc, the car is going to be the rc10t3, that on is already decided :)

Thats cool man Also if you get the stuff from Tower make sure and use a Tower code and save your self a buck or two. If you have 300 worth of stuff you can make a couple orders and save 15 each and so on...X

Just an update, I ordered the RC10T3 team updated kit, the trinity speedgems 14 t double motor, and the duratrax esc, should be here saturday:) :)

congrats...you will be much happier with that setup then with a rusty.
