ok.. got my new 3.3 running good, tuned pretty good I think. BUT After 10 min of running it pretty hard it starts to act weird. It shifts into 2nd gear like way early and the whole car starts to shutter seem to surge. But the temps by know means are hott. like 220 or under. I let it cool off for 10-15 min then it is fine untill another hard 10 min session.. So, what can I look for, or check??

Thanks,

Well I point it at the top of the head pointing down to the glow plug. But oviously you can only get so close.. I might pick up the onboard traxxas temp deal. But I thought that reads off the top of the head also. I used it as a tuning aid a few years ago when I was running the 2.5 and it seemed to work pretty good.

Lets say it is running a little hott, why would that make it shift out into 2nd gear real early..

trying to learn all this stuff, I used to race MX real big and blew my back out, so this is my new thing!!

when it goes into 2nd it seems to lug around the track, won't get up and screem. Also the rpms do seem to not seem steady, exspecially when I let off.

Are you getting a good punch off the line when it's properly warmed up? If it's "yes" then you need to adjust your shift point. That will also allow it to wind out more and shift in the better part of your power curve.
Don't make any adjustments till it's warmed up.
If it starts to chug after shifting into second, lean out your HSN for WOT.
