Running temperature

My question is how hot can i go, as long as i have blue smoke coming out of the tuning pipe, i am running a .21 OS mill on a 1/8th.

I am currently getting readings (reliable temp gun) ~ 240f-260f. And i have copious amounts of blue smoke at these temps.

Also can i shorten the breather pipe ? (goes from tank to pipe) its rather long and gets in the way.

From what I've heard, that is a bit hot for an OS mill. You should try for around 210-220 otherwise you can damage them. The breather can be shortened without affecting the engine much if any.

Which 21 is it? The RG, VZ, VZB...

I've run 21RG's for a few years. Mine would average 225-250 in a normal sized two speed vehicle (savage, revo, maxx), but would run 235-260 in a single speed buggy or in my mammoth.

I've gotten as many as 12 gallons through an RG.

For me as a general rule I try to stay under the 230-240 range. Serious racers that can afford new motors regularly I have seen run 250 - 275. The temp is just a guideline and if it still produces good smoke with no power loss over a long run than it good

That was my thought, as long as there's blue smoke with no power loss.

I will keep my eye on the temp.
