I made the switch from 20% to 30% nitro last summer and love the added power. Can I run higher temps with the 30% than I did with the 20% ?
Thanks.

What engine and temps are you running at now? Switching from 20% to 30% should make you to run cooler, not hotter. Make sure your engine is shimmed for 30%.

Always tune by sound and smoke. If those two are good, then check your temps to make sure you are running in a safe range.

SD nailed it with his post.
The other part of the answer is that you WILL get higher temps and MUCH more power using 30%. Why? your running to lean.

IMO, The boost you get with 30% over 20% should allow you to get a bit more power while running at a lower temp, or the same power at a lower temp. If you dont mind trashing your mill in a race day and the additional power brings you a trophy, you have that option.

Again, thats one mans opinion.

Sorry, I should have explained things better with my original post. I'm running an RB 1003-E 3 port (RB's economy engine) and the re-tune for the 30% didn't require me to change the LSN/HSN very much at all. The sound is good, and I get great smoke. The temps run anywhere between 180-220 depending on the driving and fuel level. So, Fast is correct with the added power. All things considered, I haven't changed much with the engine other than upping the fuel percentage. So am I in a slightly rich state running 180-220 w/30% ? I was happy running those temps using 20%. Oh, I didn't do any shimming. I was told all I had to do was re-tune. My sole reason for the switch was a result of numerous conversations w/other RC'ers who said that the additional power from running 30% was worth the money and the break-in and re-tune. I thought I could get a little more out of my entry level 3 port without sacrificing reliability.

At those temps if its running good, your in the money. IMO you could go a tad bit hotter. Again if you got what you wanted out of the change and the temps your running cool, have fun!
