well, the NTC3 is more geared for the racer so it has the opportunity for better handeling. That, of course, is dependant on the settings you set. Parts are also more readily available (aftermarket and AE) at most LHS and online stores.

As far as "boring looking" what are you referring too? I find the layout on the NTC3 more performance oriented when comparing it to the EVO.

Also remember that you are looking to get a RTR so it will run fine out of the box but further on when you want to gain performance, the NTC3 will have a larger option on parts. I owned an NTC3 for quite a while before selling it and moving up when I started racing more competatively. So in a nutshell, I bashed it and raced it so I know it's good for both worlds.

The RS4 series and RTR Evo series ... well, I never liked them. The only HPI products I would lift an eybrow to are the savage and R40. My mouth drops at the sight of a Baja B5 buggy, but who won't react that way?

You can pretty much bet that a kit will cost more in the begining but will have better components and engineering than a RTR. To get an RTR to a kit level, it will cost you more than just buying the kit from the start.

What I can suggest is, do some deeper research other than the RTR models. A kit may be more to your liking. Don't be intimidated by a kit. The NTC3 kits have one of the most well written and thought out manuals I have seen. I would recoment this to even the beginner. It's what I started out with and was a joy to build.

thank you for the quick reply. Well the stuff I like that looks cool on the EVO is the purple chassis, it has some purple aluminum parts etc.

If I get a kit that means I need the engine AND radio and servos correct ? I have no clue what engine to get or servos to get for it. And also, I would end up spending MORE to get the thing running than i would with an RTR wouldn't I ?

I covered that in my last reply. Yes you will be spending more in the begining but less in the end after upgrading what you will need in the future. Radio and engine are usually the first to get upgraded. If anything, the radio is the most important upgrade.

A RTR kit will run about $269. Upgrade the radio and that will be anywhere from $100 and up for a decent FM radio. A decent performing engine will be about $150. Over $250 for the highend but I won't formulate that in with possible upgrades. Servos will bea bout $75+ each totalling $150. That will be about $400 you would have to spend extra to get the kit level basics.

To get an NTC3 to the FT level, you'll probably spend another $150. I walked out the door with everything I needed for the kit with a receipt for $650. That was with everything including glow ignitor, body, paint, fuel and fuel bottle.

ALso remember that the annodizing color isn't important. Annodizing will scratch off. Especially on the chassis.

In a nut shell, you'll be spending more initially but less in the long run.

cool, ya that makes sense. So which car would u say is faster and handles better out of the box in the RTR version ?

TC3 vs RS4

You know what is funny I think the Same thing about the RS4 looking cool. That is the same reason I am looking into getting that one. I want the SS version because it has the .18 engine in it but I really want to put the OS .18tz in it but I have yet to get a definative answer wether it is doable. I have seen people on here w/it done but not sure How they did it.

You know, if you get an RS4 3, you could just do a .21 conversion...that'll make it a nice basher :) Just make sure to get some nice wide tires

Hi,

I've got a nitro 3 w/ an O.S. 18 cv-r. Its a great engine..plenty of punch and makes a great basher. As for the WPR stuff, I'd send him an e-mail via his site (www.wolfpackradicals.com) and see if he's got any of those adj mounts left. If so, grab 'em up while you can...those things are wonderful and you can make any setup run a perfect mesh with those things (i'm running the 18 cv-r with a centax clutch on his shoe-type 2 speed and the gears line up as good as factory...probably better lol). Anyway, sorry for going soo far off topic, but if you do the 21 conv. you better get a uprated chassis beacuse 1 hit and that 2.5mm thing is going to crush like foil lol.

good luck (go HPI) :-)

wow,

the tz's pretty damn strong....more of a truck/buggy engine imo...there use to be a whole bunch of ppl on hpiforums.com (no longer exists) that had this done...I've heard that w/o the pull start, no mods were needed. That pull start is what seems to be the prob with those things (my 18 has the same size case and w/o the pull start there's plenty of space..)

sure,

I'd like to see how to roto start would look on an 18...to have the p/s installed, i believe you're going to have to dremel away some of your gear housing to get enough clearance....but since the roto start is slimmer and has the dogbone port in the opposide end, it MIGHT work, but i don't think you'll be able to install any adjustable mounts though (like those from WPR) because any type of P/S mechanism will get in the way of the adj shafts and space will be limited already. good luck w/ your project though

Ok i got the NTC3 because my local hobby store carries parts for it. After I put it together I LOVE it. It is tight and very solid. I have the O.S. .18TZ in it and it is very fast. I just put some Foam tires on it so I am hoping the traction will be better.

I am running an OS .18 TZ in my NTC3 and I am having trouble finding traction. It has soooo much power I have already worn out a set of foams after about 4 tanks or so..

Yeah I had the traction problem with my rubbers but I am hopping that it will be better with the wider foams. Have you stripped out gears yet? I am still fine tuning mine for speed. I am hoping to hit 50 at least. So far I have only clocked in around in the low 40s. But I was not being very aggressive as there were cars in the street.

I'm sure you could hit 50 with the TZ in there.

Well I decided to go for the HPI RS4 3 18SS. I did becuase its a kit, at a decent price. I really wanted a kit and not an rtr and I don't have the cash for a FT ntc3, so I went for the 18SS. HPI claims 50+ mph out of the 18SS and I hear this is possible, I'm sure it would with a .18 TZ.

Hopefully, I can't wait until I have a free moment to play with it again. Damn winter and short days is killing me.
