Hi all

I was out bashing lst night with my Tmaxx and had a couple of really hard crashes on the rear. I ended up breaking the rear shock tower and pulling the bottom ball end of one of the shocks right out resulting in one of my progressive springs to go flying somewhere. It was still an awesome bash session! I actually ran around with only one shock on the left side for about a half an hour ( I'm guessing because i didnt really notice for quite awhile ). I am looking at getting RPM shock towers or Golden Horizons. I have seen in other posts that it is recommended by some to go with aluminum on the towers because the RPM is to soft and flexes and has the screws pull out on the bottom if not back nutted on the opposite side.

Does anyone have any more input on the RPM towers, Good/bad. I am kinda leaning toward getting the Golden Horizons, just want some more opinions on this before I go and get something.

Thanks.

I do not like the RPM towers at all. I had them on one of my maxxes years ago and took them off. I like aluminum towers but with stock plastic body posts as the designed weak link, cheap and easily replaceable.

Anything specificly that turned you off of the RPM towers to the point where you took them off of your maxx??? Everyone raves about RPM products. I have the RPM front, center and rear skids and they are great. I also plan to get the RPM arms for my Tmaxx.

I love most RPM products, but for towers they are just too soft. If you put RPM arms on your truck make sure you keep the truck elevated when not in use, or over time they will bow, again because of the soft material.

Yeah, the RPM towers sound like too much hassle and possibility of breakage, I will get other RPM parts but stay away from the towers. I dont want to have to worry about what position I am storing the truck because the towers might bow from the soft material. I am going to go with the Golden Horizon towers, they have a lifetime warranty on there stuff as well. I already have the GH bulkheads, chassis braces and bulkhead braces, so I know that their stuff is good. I also am thinking that i will stay with the stock plastic body posts to have the cheaper breaking point as mentioned.

Thanks for the advice.

+1 on the rpm towers . Too much lash in them kept trashing my ring gears due to the movement on my half shaft's now run alu and haven't broke em since i got em well over a year ago and i do some serious jumping .

Yeah, I will get the rear GH tower and wait until the front tower breaks and get GH for that as well. I'm glad that I never went with the blue anodized aluminum for the bulks, the aluminum pits like hell from all the small rocks that are roosting up from the front tires and would make the blue aluminum look like garbage.

I was talking about the a arms bowing if you leave the truck sitting on the wheels, not the towers. They are great arms, but you do have to treat them different than the stock plastic arms.

Sorry, I overlooked that part of your previous post! I have never heard of RPM's bowing like that, but I will probably still go with them for the arms. As for towers, RPM still doesn't sound like a very good option.

Just bought GH rear shock tower and motor mount on lunch break (I work about a 15 minute drive from Golden Horizon!). Got the tower and mount for $40 out the door with there 15% off Canada day / 4th of July sale, SWEET deal, would have cost me almost $65 with taxes. Now I will have to mount both, but I wont have to worry about buying those again either...Lifetime Warranty.

Yeah, tonight. Now I'm wondering what is going to break next.....its only a matter of time!

Upgrade one part brake another is always the same . My bulks are my weak point . Cheap to replace and dont have to spend ages lookin for the shocks that have sprung off lol .

What luck I have! Went to the gravel field where I lost my shock spring and took a quick look around, and there I actually found my spring! I thought it would have gotten buried or something seeing as it is a construction area. Its always nice when you dont have to spend more money at your lhs, even if it is only a few bucks. Finally fit on the GH shock tower, and it fits awesome, and looks great too. Just in time for the weekend, finally getting some more nice weather....and no rain.

Personally, I liked the RPM towers on a maxx. They bent, but when running 4 shocks on each tower, who cares? I didn't notice them flexing much until I started running 4 shocks total on the truck.

IMO, it's better to have a tower that flexes than one that is so rigid that it busts your bulkheads... gets really annoying replacing bulks.

Broken bulks or towers are free to replace for me, seeing as GH has a lifetime warranty on there parts, just need to bring it in and get them to give me a new one...no questions asked! Although, I know that RPM has the warranty on there stuff too. I hear what you are saying though.

I just never cared for taking the bulks out and replacing them. 5 minutes to replace a tower... and can be done easily while out bashing. Not saying replacing bulks is hard, just annoying to do when your in a hurry.

Yeah, bulks are alot more work to tear everything down when you need to replace. I'm hoping that I've got all the right aluminum in place ie. bulk braces to NOT break a bulk in a crash, but those upside down landings probably dont help too much.

I have had RC Solutions aluminum bulks, and aluminum towers on my maxx for years now, never broke either. But I run a "complete" body, not a piece of a body Olds :p: . I use stock plastic body posts, with a complete body as my weak link and never broke a bulk. Stop using integy bulks and you won't have to worry about it either. :hehe:

This is just one thing you and I will NEVER agree on. I have never liked RPM towers, I removed them from my maxx, was happy, and never missed em, and you swear by them.

I have aluminum body posts on the rear right now (Picked up from a friend who didnt have his maxx anymore) and I am hoping that they dont come around to bite me in the ass later on. I did have the stock plastic posts but they broke and I put the aluminum on. I too would much rather have the body posts break than bulks or towers.

When you say you use a "Complete" body, what are you refering to? I run a pickup body, do you mean a hummer body to be "complete" or are you just giving him the gears?
