Roto Start Big Problem

The Delrin is a good idea too. I'm going to carefully inspect the original pullstart off of the Picco and see how they get the spring to not only seat properly, but stay seated. For now though, I may just go back and put the pull start on until I find a good mod for it.

Drilling a hole would allow me to hard mount something like a threaded standoff too. Didnt think about that.
 
Actually I was thinking that a spring might catch or dig into the housing, spin and drill a hole itself. If you think that it'd be ok to drill and mount something then ok, but the clearances in the housing might be close and it'd be held on by a thread or two. JB might be better once the thickness is worked out for the spacer. If the starter shaft extends far enough back then you could machine the center hole in the spacer to a running fit and let it float. otherwise JB it, but I'd be hesitant to drill another hole in the housing. Just my opinion.

On the other hand, jb is pretty much permanent. Dang, I gotta mic the crap, cause I have no idea how much space there is to play with.

I have not seen one of the HPI Roto's, but it looks just like the HB one. Is the starter crank on the .26 shorter than the 21BB? If not, you might have a blown 1 way, cause there aint much play in my setup.
 
hmmmmm, Thats the HPI roto, however they do give you a detailed mod for it to work on the Picco .26.
 
Error401, your measurements are PERFECT! Good job and THANK YOU! As Randy has posted, in his link, OFNA has an optional part that can be used to keep that 12mm closed! I'm going to have a harder time finding a 5.5x12 than prob getting the part itself. Sooo, bottom line is there is a nifty mod by OFNA that should clear up my problem. A new one-way is also enroute.

No prob. I'll leave that page up for the thread, other folks might want to see it too. The pix on the Ofna page were kind of small, and I couldn't really get an idea of what the back of the Picco looked like. Take some pix when your parts get in, I'm still gonna get a Picco 26 (whenever they get in stock). Also, the new 1 way I got is much tighter than the old one I had. I think that's what my probelm was.
 
Well....I looked at the Ofna infor linked above. Interesting that they state to put a coat of lube on the greaing and such. When I installed the replacement housing for the roto start I kinda took it on my own to lube all the internal parts even though the HPI instructions said nothing. Basically the HPI instructions don't tell you much of anything, they just show how to assemble the parts. They could do better with there printed instructions for things. Still haven't been able to try out the new starter (rain, rain, rain). I just hope it last longer than the one day the first one lasted.

Well I put a bearring in today to take up the slack. Problem was, the rear crank nut/shaft would slide out. For those that dont know, the one-way-b is located behind the backplate on the Picco .26. ALL IS WELL!

And we couldnt order the part # specified on OFNA's page. It was a part # for an old discontinued part. Hopefully it will be updated soon.

Back to playing with POWER!
 
Sweet. One last note on roto's. BE SURE TO TAKE A SPARE PACK! I didn't and got screwed just now. Spent all friggin day mowing and helping my dad with his new horrizontal mill, and all I wanted was to run my Savage. I get my stuff and head out with the 4-tec and the sav. I run the 4-tec for a bit and notice the Rx battery is almost dead, so I get the Savage out and before I get it started, the friggin 1500mah POS starter pack gives out. Now it'll be dark before I get all the batteries charged. Tomorrow it'll rain.:opps:

Moral of this: Take a friggin charger, or a spare pack for ANYTHING that need batteries. Think I'll play some Vice City. Run-By fistings are the best.

I had the same thing happen to me today. Had the charger though. Still sucked, cause it was dark when I was done charging. I'm thinking about picking up another one. I have the Reedy Quasar Pro but there is a new one out with not only more options, but, has more capabilities. A/C, D/C, NiCd, NiMh, 1-15 cells, Cycling, Conditioning, discharge, programmable etc...etc... The price, around 135$

Man I'm diggin this Picco!
 
And it just got worse....

Man, you're not gonna believe this, but... Somehow I got into some poison oak mowing today. Normally it doesn't mess with me, but I got some in my left eye and it caused a blister 1/2 inch by 3/8th inch next to my cornea. I just got back from a 5 hour stint at the E-room. Right now it's 3:15am. They dosed me and the blister is almost gone, but it's still bothering me. I guess I won't be getting the Picco now that I'll be gettin a bill from the hospital.

If I wasn't so beat, I'd ziptie my mag light to the savage.:angry:

Your welcome Christian. I've just put the spring in and haven't seemed to have any trouble in the Picco (knock on wood), I guess I'll find something to put in there next time I have to take apart the rear end.
 
So far so good with the bearring. Snug as can be without being too tight. But having two packs almost seems essential for a day of running. My starter button sticks, but that should be easily fixed.

Hope the meds kick in fast! That has to suck being right on the eyeball!!!!
 
Poison oak, ivy and sumac. We have this crap in the south (I'm in VA) The oils in the plant are toxic, alkyloid blister agent, causes rashes and itches like hell. It can also be transmitted if you don't wash the crap off. Nitro cleaner works pretty well. The meds are helping, just feels funny cause my eye is swollen a bit now.

That new 1 way I put in mine is slipping now. I'm thinking that maybe my shaft is worn.
 
Maybe you had a bad shaft the whole time :(

Call the mftr. and see if they will replace it for you.

My problem appears solved. I got a break in the weather and was able to test the truck. I did have to readjust my new reverse module linkage but all seems to be much better. The starter even sounds like it isw working smoother than the first one. I'd have to presume that the first one was no good from the factory and that is why it destroyed the case. Thanks to all that replied.
 
Anytime Larry. Chris, I got my truck 2nd hand and the engine has a bunch of time on it. Just a while ago I tried starting it and the new 1 way would only catch every now and again. When it didn't it acted like there was no 1 way (spun freely). I put the pull start back on and I can start it again. The 1 way feels like it's ok, and the fit on the shaft feels tighter than the old one. I think the shaft is worn, and the JS just puts too much torque on it all at once. I'll save it for the Picco.
 
hmm ia hve read many posts on this topic and most people have mixed feelings about the rotostart. I ordered mine today and i hope it works after a whole day of yanking that friggin starter cord ihave blisters (that burst) between my first and second fingers on both sides and between my second and third fingers both sides :doc: . it will be none too soon when that starter shows up, but like a dumb ass i was out there yanking on it again open blisters and all lol, what an addiction !:hehe:
