I installed this slipper clutch and noticed the spur gear is off a bit and does not line up perfect with the pinion gear on the engine. It works fine just about 1/16 of the spur gear does not make contact with the pinion and is not wearing even with the rest of the gear.

If I was to shorten the spacer that goes between the gear and trans they supply the gear would hit the battery box.

Any one else have this problem ?

see if there's any spacers behind your collet first
if no, see if there's any between the FW nut and the CB....I didn't have this issue when I had mine.....

Hmmmm. Seems to me I had this issue one time or another. If I remember correctly (I'm getting old) ??You need to flip the Spur gear around. it has an offset to one side.?? Or the gear needs to be mounted on the other side of the slipper. I know its one of the two.

I just remember grinding my case and shimming the flywheel to find out it was much more simple then that.

Edd, i think you are right. I was thinking the exact same thing. Check to see if you can flip the spur around. It should fit just fine.

Ok thanks, I was thinking of trying fliping the gear to see if it helped , but wasn't sure if it would efect the operation of it.

I have to fix some parts after a nother high speed crash into a washing machine (guess I should learn to drive) so will have it apart anyways.

sorry my kid wrote that last nite and your post made me remember it.....had to share her rendition of an old limmerick

Hey Guys,

I don't know if this is considered thread jacking or not.. if it is then I am sorry. I had a RRP Slipper setup given to me and I was looking to install it into my Maxx. Now here is the stupid question... do I need to take the whole mill out to install? I am affraid to because I have no idea how to set the mesh back, heck I don't even know how to install the clutch for that matter. I figure I was just going to see if I could figure it out. I am not even sure how to get the old clutch off either. Don't you just love being a green Rookie!

What a great place to start.
The mesh is an important setting and needs to be adjusted often.
If you have a digital camera, start snapping pics and take it apart. you can go back to the pics if you need help remembering how it goes back together. We are here to help as well.

where do you run that a washing machine will jump out in front of you?? that had to hurt lol

Sounds funny, but the guy next door has 4 washer and dryers set out on the side of the street for big trash pickup we have about every three months or so. All my life I have used the 2 stick type transmitter and never got the hang of a pistol grip were you push forwards for the brake.

Oh well I like taking things apart, just not spending the money.............

godale03,

I found it was a lot easier to remove the motor to install it, and have to remove the gas tank also. The manual explains gear mes setup and how to remove the spur gear.

NO ! NO !

I like to take a part fun stuff.

godale03, take out the tank and motor. It's really easier than it looks. Just look at the exploded parts view if you get confused on putting it back together, or take dig pics like Eddy said.

As to mesh, put a piece of normal printer paper in between the gears when you reinstall the motor. Tighten the motor down with the paper in between the gears, and once tightened, pul the papers out. You should have a very slight amount of gear mesh play. If it sounds noisy like tight gears, it's too tight. If it clunks around or sounds loose, start again with the paper trick. I just did this last night and the night before as I was installing the Picco Max .26 in my new S-Maxx (now a full T-Maxx). Got it right both nights, the first time.

Hey Revo,
Thanks Dude, I have heard the paper thing works really well. Which way to you pull the paper out? Like you were turning the gear or straight out like you were pulling a paper jam out of a printer?

don't matter you just need to get the paper out.....I actually find revoving the tranny to be easier..but I'm BacAssWards alot of times...

I use both techniques. I gently pull on the paper and rotate the spur gear on the trans. I cut or strip the paper first so it only a ribbon shape, about 1/2" wide, about 6" 's long.
