Ok, so the story goes...
Just picked up my first nitro rc, the Revo. The truck is used and obviously an older model, but seemed to be in good overall condition. The engine has been converted to pull start and he told me he diengaged the optidrive and has the traxxas controller without the reverse switch. He also told me that doing so looses the 4wd and reverse but will still go in 2wd.
Here's the problem, i've tried to start the truck and succeeded, but the throttle sounded and acted like WOT!!?? so, i shut it down before it got out of hand or revved up too high. I tried a second time and had the same result. Since i've tried to read thru many forums and even printed off the factory manual for more info. Tried the factory reset of the carb, to go 4 turns from close on the hs needle and flush on the low speed and since hasn't fired at all. I know i flooded it, and know how to clear it, and have done so several times as well. Also checked the glow plug in the ignitor, seems to work properly, and replaced the gas tank as i was looking for leaks and couldn't get it to seal up. I'm running out of options and can't believe this simple engine is this difficult to fire! Just want to get her up and running and the only other thing i've com across is somebody mentioning using a hairdryer to heat up the block, but i do keep my truck indoors, but it is only 33 outside right now! Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated, thankx!!!:\

33 is cold. 2WD means you have a blown diff or a broken part in the drive line that doesn't turn. The Opti and the forward only has nothing to do with it.
NEVER try to start an engine till you know all the controls are working properly and visually adjusted where they should be.

Should have clarified, the truck still has all four turning, thats part of what i'm confused about.

What you need to know about carbs:

Idle speed adjustment:

This is an HPI Savage 4.6 engine, but that is the common location for the idle speed adjustment screw.

Setting your carb:

Start with the needles at factory recommended settings and make sure all your batteries are fully charged; The starter battery, if you use one, the glow igniter and the on-board receiver battery. Make absolutely sure you have a good glow plug with a bright glow, or install a new one.
Be very precise about closing both the LSN (Low Speed Needle) and the HSN (High Speed Needle) and carefully counting the turns to factory recommended openings.
Turn the Transmitter on, then the Receiver. (Tx and Rx)
Turn the throttle trim knob on the Tx down to zero and hold the trigger to full brake when adjusting the idle screw. That way, there's no way the carb can close completely and stall the car when you hit the brakes.
Remove the air filter and look into the throat of the carburetor. You should have about a 1 to 2mm opening that looks like this:

I quoted the bits here to help you get it adjusted while on your bench. Make sure your radio is on and your throttle trim is set to 0 or 50/50 (centered) so you have the ability to fine tune it in either direction. Then read the above and look at the diagrahms. It sounds like you may have a few things going on, a few of them being linkage and/or trim adjustment and/or idle screw adjustment.

sorry it's been a while, but thankx for the tips i'll try to get going on the Revo again tonight or sometime this weekend

This may be a newbie type response but, it was very helpful for me when tuning my first nitro which also was a used rc. I took it to my local hobby shop and told them what problems I was having and asked a lot of questions as the guy tuned it for me. Any good HS will help you learn how to tune and diagnose your nitro rc. I still have some issues that I need assistance with and Andy at my local HS comes through every time and shows me what it was he did and how to fix it on my own. This relationship also earned me a permanent 10% discount when I shop there.
Hope this helps
