This is getting ridiculous, I just broke my 5th axle carrier on my mini-revo. This time it was actually a friend I let operate, but the hits were not all that hard. It looks like all the aluminum options are currently sold out, but man the Traxxas stock carriers are bogus!

How are they breaking? Just curious. I have the mini Slash...

The pillow balls will break through the top or bottom of the carrier, respective to whether they are the top or bottom pillow ball. The repair is not expensive or overly time consuming as long as none of the pillow ball plugs fly away. But this is getting silly. I have never broke the carriers on my big revo. Judging by the fact that the 1/16 aluminum carrier produced by multiple mfgs, and they are all sold out or on back order... I would surmise that this is a common problem.

I just broke my first axle carrier last week. I made the mistake of ordering another set of stock ones but after I go though those, I'll get the aluminum ones. This is the first time I replaced what broke with the exact same thing. I like to upgrade anything that breaks.

I'm breaking all kinds of new things since I switched to lipos...

I usually don't recommend this sort of thing, but this sounds like a good place to use the ca glue/paper towel reinforcement method. I've never done it, but it sounds simple enough. The glue and towel makes for a real stout beefing of the part from what I have read. Guys apply the method and paint the part which ever color they need it to be. After the rough edges are cleaned up with a dremel, the parts actually look really well. There's a bunch of people doing to the redcat carriers on the 8e series on another forum. Just an idea for the person that's short on cash.

An interesting idea, although I may use some fibreglass matting I have in lieu of the paper towel along with a slow CA... It will add weight, but it may serve in a pinch until the aluminum options become available.

Here is the fix; http://www.neweramodels.com/item.cgi?session_id=&part_id=10374

Over the weekend, I replaced all 4 carriers, clips and pivot balls with stock ones . With less than one pack on them they are already sloppy again. It would be nice if RPM would make a set ( hopefully RPM is reading this and other posts, hint, hint ).
I'd stay away from Hot Racing's set if their knuckles are anything like their toe links and push rods. I just removed a set of 4 HR toe links that had prematurely worn out and replaced with a full set of TRX links and rods (ouch).

The knuckles are my next upgrade.

i did the hot racing knuckles, toe links, and push rods. the toe links and rods are junk. however, i have not had one single problem with the knuckes and would buy them again.

That's good to hear. Any idea how many packs on on them?

I looked at those New Era knuckles... It looks like they use the stock style pillow ball plugs. I think that design is silly. I have see a few other mfgs (3Racing and Integy) and those carries use a threaded nylon pillow ball plug. I like that design a whole lot more. If it works for the big revo, it should work here.

Your right. That'll teach me for sleeping at the switch. The lhs says they have a set with the round inserts to hold the pivot balls in. I'll take a look this week to see if they will work.

So I installed the RPM A-arms and replaced the axle carries and new pivot balls while I was at it. Yup you are all right in saying the composite stock carriers are the pits. The RPM arms are beautiful! RPM needs to make some carriers for this thing. The aluminum integy ones look good. Maybe I'll try them next.

I can't believe how much cash I have in this thing already..
