I have a truck that stopped going in reverse.

Any ideas?

The "brake" function still works.
I swapped in another motor (just hooked up the wires and held the motor), and that other motor also does not give reverse.

The ESC blinks red when applying reverse, but no action.

I checked the trim, and in one direction, the motor starts going forward of course, and turning it the other way, the red light will blink, and then turning the trim further, will come on solid.

The truck is an HPI Mini Trophy Desert Truck.
Stock ESC

Manual mentions no reprogram. This is a brushed system. Maybe someone here has an idea how to do that?

I have an idea, start by getting the manual and reprogramming the esc.

What esc does it have? To reprogram it should only take you but a minute. I know that traxxas has a "race" mode on their ESCs that only allow forward and brake. Sounds similar to your problem.

I may have a solution. I'll find out this evening.

From another thread that I finally stumbled on....

Hold trigger with radio turned on and turn on ESC. Lights will flash. Go to neutral for maybe a second. Then go to full reverse for maybe a second. Return to neutral and it will make some beeps, lights will stop flashing, and mine at least was calibrated. This seems to be something that has to be done within a time limit, more so than it is reacting to the end points.

I think a family member may have turned this one on, and not being an RC person, may have had their finger on the trigger. We'll see....

Well, I thought I was blaming it on my nieces husband, but turns out my son is the one who turned it on first. And he knows not to hold the trigger.

Sadly, I could not get it to fix itself doing the throttle on then turn on deal. I found that if I tried holding the trigger, then neutral, it would put it into a mode that kept part throttle on in neutral, and full with throttle, and brake when pushed forward. I guess that's race mode?

Anyway, still no reverse. I'm beginning to think it may just be the ESC.

I did get a response from HPI finally, and they attached the user manual for the newer water proof version. SC-15WP. Unfortunately, it's completely different. That newer one has a mode button for programing, mine does not. The menus are then of course not compatible with mine. Hoping they can send something for the old one - my manual has no programing at all.

Ok. I have a hpi radio as well and i had a similar issue but i was using it on a traxxas esc.
Have you checked your end points?

Is this what your using?

try tinkering with the throttle trim. My truck is the same exact one and I remember having that problem--Also check your esc--Mine tended to get packed with sand and dirt from running and it seemed to affect the operation

No, that ain't right.

Not all ESCs calibrate the same way. Forward-neutral-reverse is the norm, but not a rule. Some are reverse first, others start in neutral.
