When there was no EBay chop shops or YouTube instructional videos. You had to actually go and socialize with other Nitro heads to get information and then buy everything from the LHS, It was a different time and maybe even a little more fun. I do miss those days but I just had to take a moment to reminisce.
Thank the Nitro God that things are so much easier now and information and parts are literally at your fingertips.

I don't even have pictures of my old Nitros because the cell phones didn't have cameras and all the photos and VHS tapes got tossed away. I'm pretty sure I had a pager back in 93 and no cell phone anyways. Back then phones had two way radios and no internet or cameras and everything was filmed by your Mom on her Camcorder. Lol

O my god what are we going to do with out our cell phones. What you would do with out the cell phone is enjoy life and don't worry about what someone is telling Jerry or Joe if it isn't that important wait tell you see them and visit that way this world is going nuts.

Even the GoPro is an absolute game changer for us RC hobby guys and that's not to mention the quality of the video now which means you can actually see clearly what people are doing and hear what they're saying.
Back in the day you had to work hard to diagnose a Nitro problem let alone get the parts easily and fix it yourself unless you were a seasoned veteran of the hobby. Electric guys couldn't help you so if you had no Nitro guys in your town you were basically screwed and were on your own. Now with YouTube and these forums you can get the information you need before you start working and before driving across town to the hobby store. I remember actually calling Traxxas on my old phone in the kitchen a ton of times for help cause it was the only way to learn.
The cell phone now is good for our hobby because it allows us to share our information easily and accurately. If people want to bury their nose in one that's not a wise or healthy decision :)

The internet has definitely made it easier for users to get information, but has also caused cheap nitro rc's to flood the market, and more and more people to impulse buy them with no background knowledge.

Yes i agree that there are too many bad products that do more damage to Nitro RC than help it. I have a lot of experience with RC toys and even i have been duped by internet garbage, but never again!

My lhs is a jerk tbh. When you call him he is always too busy to talk or answer a question. When you are there personally her is also too busy despite the fact that you standing there at that moment you are his job. He tries to get ad much money out of you while doing nothing as he can and then get you out of the store. He does not do this with everyone, there are like 3 guys that he must be related to our have some sort of controlling interest that he treats like kings. I've pretty much stopped going there unless there is a part i must have immediately. With all the progress in the world things are not progressing, rather degrading in the name of progression.

I'm sorry to hear you have a jerk at the store, but it's not uncommon. On the other hand there are never less than 3 guys behind the RC counter at my local HobbyTown U.S.A. store and they are all first rate, VERY knowledgeable and helpful to everyone, whether they are pro racers or newbie amateurs.
ALL hobby stores should be like that since the internet has driven most of them out of business.

My first 2 years into the hobby (about 15 years ago), I didn't know about forums and really didn't use the internet for anything but... stuff. Remember dial up?

That was a rough learning experience. Luckily, I did find a forum shortly before or after I got a t-maxx. The rest is history!

Actually, looking at some of my old "digital" photo's, I think it was closer to 17 years ago. I'm old...

And now you're here forever, slowly descending into a spiral of @Rolex fueled insanity...
