i was looking through some boxed up crap, and i ran across my old set of racing goggles from back in my racing days. and i got me to thinking how much i missed my old 3 wheelers! i started with a honda 200x, and than a 250r, and in the heyday of my racing days, was running the Kawasaki KXT 250 TECATE. i have had some quads in my day, but i really miss my old Tecate!

I never had one but they were all around me when I was a kid. Never saw any raced though at our MX track, quads were big enough then that they were the only other class besides mx.

i am really dating myself, but i bought this model brand new in 86-87 i was 2 years out of high school. our local track the Kato cycle club had a class for 3 wheeler's, and a hill climb class for 3 wheeler's it was not long after that quads started show up and by the early 90's it was a thing of the past!!!! LOL !

They stopped selling those things in Canada in the early 90s for safety concerns. My dad and I use to go ride them with a a couple of his friends that had kids my age. It was great fun until my dads friend tipped his got trapped under it and hurt pretty bad. I was never allowed to ride it again and it got sold shortly after that. I did however get to keep my Honda z50. That was a helluva alot more fun anyways, I wish I could afford a dirtbike now.

They quit making them in 1987. I had an 87' big red (last year of chain drive) with an extended rear end and a 1998 Kawasaki 600cc crotch rocket motor on it for sand dragging. It was fun.

My friend had a Honda 110cc that we used out on the beach right after my graduation from High School. I was riding flat out across the sand and a guy on one of the 250r models asked if I wanted to race. When I told that I was already running flat out, he sad too bad and gunned and left a huge roost of sand for me to choke on. lol Good times.

OMG how could i for get my very first 3 wheeler the honda 110 big old balloon tires, no shocks. they were a riot! you would hit a jump and it would bounce another 3 times before it stopped! and as for their state of the art suspension.....it was called your knees and back !

Yup. Had a 110 with the balloons on it as well. When I was like 16. I weighed like 130 and it would float with me on it.

i personally couldnt stand 3 wheelers ... they were annoying to ride.. I'm just so used to motocross that i like to lean into turns .. where the 3 wheeler you just turn the wheel to turn and it feels awkward.. actually took me awhile to get used to turning the bars lol

I'm my day i could pitch a 3 wheeler with any Mx guy and beat him out of the turns. the first real drifting was done with 3 wheeler's ! LOL ! sliding was a huge part of 3 wheeler racing !

Solid rear axle with positive traction. Lol

when they came out with the uni shock concept for the rear, 3 wheeler guys were very happy !

My favorite 3 wheeler was the 4-stroke Honda 200X. I had a lot of different ones back in the day. Where I lived at the time,I had chat piles 100yrds behind my house. I just had to watch out for the mine shafts :hehe:

i loved my 200x!

i grew up on a 3 wheeler had an 1984 honda 200m with no rear suspension and chain drive ...then had an 1985 honda Big red with shaft drive and rear suspension ...the Big red still runs pretty good ...will start with just a couple cranks after spending a canadian winter buried in snow ...can't kill that baby ...lol..only thing that was changed on that thing was the rear axle bearings ...

i actually feel more comfortable on a 3 wheeler than a 4 wheeler ..but i do love the 4 wheel drive ..will go places 3 wheels can't ..lol

I had a 3 wheeler and 4 wheelers both....4 wheelers were not only more fun but safer as well.

depends on your age. for us old guys,,3 wheeler's were the norm, and while quads were more stable, for the 3 wheeler nuts, quads seemed slow and hard to steer. but in time we had no choice we made the switch. and while i agree 3 wheeler's were less stable, they were still more fun than quads ! (at the time) i have owned a quadzilla 500 4 stroke Suzuki. a Yamaha banshee , and a warrior ! and while all fun quads, i still miss my 3 wheel unstable ride ! quads have far surpassed the old 3 wheeling days of the 80's and 90's. in the 80's safety was not an issue, we used to ride to school in the back of my dad pick up truck..now it's against the law LMAO ! quads today are way better! but it's hard to teach a old dog new tricks !:whhooo:

Not only did I grow up on em but bought a couple for toolin around the house a few years back. It was a blast to have as all the quad guys wouldnt touc them cause of how "unsafe" they were. Started with my 84 200X moved up to a TRI Z, 250r's like water and was finally outpowered by the 350X. Man those things were a blast to drive

ahh the good old tri z 250r's.....they were easier to ride long wheelies. (powerband was better than the 250 tecate) but the tecate had more top end!

UNSAFE is a state of mind !:whhooo:

yea but if you get a 4 wheeler stuck, you can't just pick it up and carry it outta the hole, like you can the 3 wheelers.
