How's it going? I'm about to start the engine break in process for my new nitro. This is my very first time doing this. Besides the basic's that the manual shows, anybody have and tips? Oil the air filter/after run oil brands?? thanks much appreciated!

get extra pull start they are a pos also make sure you dogbone screws are tight they like to fall out put loctight on them.good luck mine self destructed before i finnished break in,lol

Alright, i started the break in last night and ran a full tank of nitro thru just letting it sit. I waited about 15 mins and filled the tank again. When I tried to start it up again it did give me some trouble. It took about another 10-15 mins of priming and yanking the pull start to get it running again. I drove it for about 90% of the tank at 3/4 throttle. It stalled out when i accidentally punch the throttle. It was dark out so I called it a night. I took it back out tonight. And same thing it took about 10-15 mins of priming and ripping the pull cord. My truck ran for around 15 mins and cut off. When i tried to get it back running it took about 45 mins. Every time i would get it running it would cut off soon after. Engine was hot to the touch. Could this be the reason? Or maybe I'm not adjusting the fuel flow right?

What temp is the truck running at? Redcat sends their stuff out way high on the rich side. Have you made any adjustments? Need more info but if I had to guess you are way rich on top and bottom.

I think u need to richen it up if it's getting too hot. What sort of temps are u talking about? And when u prime it are u putting ur finger over the exhaust when you pull the cord?

But yes could be lean too. Need to know the temp
It's getting up to...

yes i actually made a bunch of adjustments to the high speed needle. And I don't own a temp gauge right now. I'm guessing now that would be something I need. The last time I got it started without it cutting out, i just let it sit and run for a good 10 mins. It ran smooth just sitting, sounded good and no sputtering. Then i started to throttle slow and it cut off on me no more than 2 mins after driving.

yep i do cover the exhaust when i primed it..

Since i posted last i have got about 2.5 tanks thru,so I'm on the 5th tank of the break in. My next store neighbor is into RC's so you gave me a couple tips. To make sure fuel is getting to the motor he had me shoot some WD40 into the carb and pull the pull start a few times. With the glow plug out some of the WD did shoot out. This shows it was getting fuel. Besides that he said to give it some throttle when i was pulling the cord. This seemed to get it running very good and i ran my truck for around 2 hours that night. I can say i am indefinably enjoying my first couple of weeks in the hobby.

I'm running a huricane xtr

cool. how is it for you?

amazing!!!!!my tmaxx didnt stand a chance so i upgraded.most of the guys here will say redcat is crap. WRONG using a redcat lightning exp pro going full throttle spun out got air smashed into a tree, i broke the tail on the body. my old stock tmaxx would be K.O. this proves redcat is quality rc. if you are having trouble with the pull start being hard too use it gets alot easier after about 10 tanks.

glad the redcats working out for you,but saying it is better than a tmaxx you got to be crazy

well i deosnt break as easy but the tmaxx is being built to try to beat a jato 3.3. its so big i wont be easy
