reciever wire broke

i just flipped my tamxx and it ripped my reciever antenna wire straight in two, can i splice it or do i have to get a whole new reciever

You could try, but I think it won't do any good. I would suggest getting a new receiver.

Its cheaper to buy a new one, then replacing the whole front end on your truck when it goes out of your now shortened range and hits a curb. lol.

Hold up there. Before you do anything that drastic you could just twist the metal ends of the reciever wire together and then wrap electrical tape around the entire antenna tube, like I did on my Maxx. If the tape gets scratched up just replace it. I've taken some pretty bad spills (and a couple lid slides) and not lost any wire yet.

You shouldn't be taking chances when it comes to losing control. It sometimes works to splice it, but often things go wrong and you have a costly runaway.
Go to the LHS and get a replacement and solder it to the board.

what would happen if you just soldered a new wire alltogether to the reciever? I have done that three times and have had absolutly no problems

That's what you're supposed to do.

yeah, just get some Rx wire from your LHS. It's a very simple solder job. Getting the Rx open is the hardest part.

yeah well for this weekend ill go with a twisty elec tape job and just not test the range to much when i get home ill either dig up some rx wire or just get a new reciever

I've had no problems with a traxxas reciever that I had the same problem with. I got a new antena wire from the hobbyshop, cut it to origanal length of the traxxas wire and just cut the rest of the stock wire about an inch out from the receiver,stripped the insulation and twisted the wires together and was very generious with the electrical tape.Since your reciever is enclosed in a plastic case,you really dont have to worry about the wire grounding out on metal.Has been like that for a few years now with no problems.I think the wire cost me under $2.00.Do it,it will work.Just make sure you get the length right.

I don't know if you've fixed it yet but here's what I meant by my post, it works great and I have yet to have a problem with range or scraping.
