I recently purchased this used savage 25 from craigslist and i'm haveing a little difficulty. I can get the engine to start but once I do it won't run right, so i tune the engine till it's running great and then I have difficulty starting. One other thing i've noticed is that i have alot of excess fuel and oil draining from the exhaust. I'm new to these nitro trucks and could use the help.

Do you know what engine is on it?
its probably the hpi k or f 4.6
You need to try to figure what engine is on it then look up factory needle setting online for that motor and set it to stock settings.
That should get it running pretty close to right, then you may have to lean a little bit for performance as most companies have very rich stock needle settings

Hope i could help man.I have 2 savage xs and i have had problems similar to this before.

Happy runnin man:)

Do what ckeast420 suggested and figure out your factory settings for your engine.

Then, when starting it, hold the throttle open about 1/4 with one hand and try to start it. I've seen quite a few new guys not hold the throttle open when starting and trust me, it's easier to get them running with it open a bit. As soon as it fires up, let off the gas. I usually hold it open with my finger on the linkage somewhere while I pull the starter. Then I can hold it down, throttle up and pull the starter at the same time.

From what I can tell it's got the .28 and i'll try and set it back to factory settings and go from there. Thanks for the help

Instead of holding the throttle open with your finger, just turn up the throttle trim until it starts up. Then turn down the trim once it stays started.

That can be more annoying than it's worth depending on your radio, also, if it fires up and it's jacked up to high, it could take off on you before you get your wits about you to hit the brakes. Using your hand means as soon as it takes off, it will drop to idle when you let go.

Yeah....done that before....did a cool back flip on my mailbox and ended up the first big ding in my cooling head. I have the idle up function on my remote but still find myself using the hold it open a bit with the finger. Maybe a hold over from when my remotes were not cool enough to do that...but still I find it the easiest way to do it.
