During the HRB 2 one of my ailments was radio problems. As I am rebuilding my K-1 and K-3 I am noticing that the radio receiver is only getting power some of the time but other times nada. I thought initially is was the on/off switch was bad. I ran the power directly from the battery into the receivers but this was still not a sollution nor was the problem fixed. I changed both battery packs and still no fix.

I am beginning to think I have fried 2 receivers and they are only partially working. The receivers are JR RS300's FM both were purchased at the same time. I always add padding to the radio box both top and bottom so they should have been well protected but for some reason they were not.

Here's the question, can they be salvaged or fixed even if I need to cannibalize one to get the other working? If not what's a good synthesized RX that is compatable with a JR TX and HiTec servos? Thanks.

PS, I have checked batteries to see if they were under voltage so that they would work and this was not the problem.

EP, I don't know about whether they are "fixable" or not but I also use the receiver you are referring to as well as their newer version, RS310. I lke the 310's better because it's smaller and fits without needing to shoehorn it in. I beleive it goes for about $80. I may be wrong on the price, but I think that's the ballpark price.

Sounds like there's possibly a broken or bad connection somewhere along the lines. One thing you may want to check is for any corrosion on the pins on the reciever that may be compromising the battery connection. Then, if you're adventurous, take the case off the reciever and make sure all is dusted and cleaned. Look for any signs of corrosion, moisture or shorting on the board. Sometimes something small will work its way in and wreak havoc. A quick clean can sometimes restore these things.

I'd check the connectors also. Perhaps they are not getting a solid seat on the pins. If that is not the problem, then many of my suggestions have already been volunteered by others.

To answer your question about a replacement, have you looked into Novak synthesized receivers. I use them in all of my rides. So far the only one that has quit is the one I submarined on the muddy maxx. It quit almost a year after it dried out and had already run several more times. I'd say they are pretty darn strong. I am also fairly certain that they are compatible with JR radios.

Taking it apart and cleaning it was one of the first things I had done. Connectors bad? Hmmm, well it's possible that 4 different battery packs (2 of them virgin in the package) have bad connectors but the odds are great that this is not the case. Connectors inside the receiver looked brand new and I even whipped out some 400 grip sandpaper and roughed them up to make sure they would be getting a clean connection.

As far as the receiver you suggested Sky, I had actually thought of getting that one when I build my latest buggies but I did not because I found the JR radio I bought came with a reveiver and I just bought an extra for the other buggy. Maybe I'll just have to fork out $200 and buy 2 new reveivers.

All I know is that they work great, and you know how I drive and fly. :D

EP, have you checked with JR to see if they any type of warranty or repair program. RS300's are not cheap, I have three of them and if they all crapped at the same time I would be completely bummed!!!

Ep, the rs300 is known for sucking ass. I have 2, 1 dent dead and the other glitches badly on my 4wd cybermaxx and Storm. But it works ok on my rc10gt and emaxx. The rs310 is smaller and is supposed to cure the 300 problems. It is $64 on the Horizon site:

Actually it is $75 there, but that is $40 less than the Novak XXtra.
