Well, I let the engine cool down completely. Then ran it up again. It's getting more weird. When it's cold, the HSN mixture will be pretty good, then when it gets to running temp, starts to run on the rich side, enough to almost have the engine die.

So I dunno, i'm still in break in, if the weirdness doesn't go away by like the 10th tank (after break in) then i'll give HB a call and see what they have to say.

Just curious. Will these work with a Truckzilla conversion? I dont know if they are the same size, longer or what. I want to keep my Savage all GPM purple. The price seems high though compared to the standard chassis brace.

Kwong2001 - When I got my truckzilla kit ,I noticed that my high speed needle valve was loose so I tighten it up and put sealant around it's base, then I took the motor completley apart. Did you do that ? Upon inspection I notice some metal shavings in the motor and the backplate screws were not tight and did not have any locktite on them. I cleaned out the motor and put locktite on the backplate screws and tighten them down real good , before I fired it up. Maybe you got an air leak around the backplate too.

No, the engine mount is different on the Truckzilla. It actually sticks out past the chassis. So it won't work.

Originally I was gonna take apart the engine and inspect and put some after-run oil on everything, but I couldn't even remove the head cuz the bolts were too tight, so I just left it as is.

It can't be an air leak since it's still running incredibly rich and my temps aren't shooting up.

Truckzilla - today

Your right Kwong!! Air leak=leaning out and high temps. Must be that middle needlevalve they must not have adjusted it properly at the factory. Kwong the last two major purchases I made had manufactory's defects! When I purchased my savage rtr at first I could not get the 25 motor to run, upon inspection I found a piece of solid round nylon plastic in the coupler between the exhaust and the pipe. So now I inspect new motors and any rtr I get. Kwong check your header pipe some guys on the savage central website were talking about how the first run header pipes were not made right, the exhaust opening was too small Good luck Kwong.

Big, new engines are always hard to start when new. Try warming it up with a hair dryer or heat gun, and try to keep the temps around 200 F.

Kwong, mine arrived last night. Soooweeet! That was quite a wait, about 3 weeks. Although I have not started even opening the box, I just love staring at it for now. I will probably start assembling/disassembling mine this weekend.
I will be in touch with any weird findings that need to be shared with the group.

Hey nitrohead... are those paddle tires on your rig? How do they run in the snow?

Does anyone make a roto-start for that engine? BTW- what do those kits cost?

You need the rotostart to start it, but the truckzilla comes with a backplate.

With tires, $310-390
Without tires, $230-290

No, wdavidhicks they are ufo rims with mayham tires on them I think. David, man, I don't like the snow or the cold I won't be doing any running until the spring when it warms up.

LOL I like to do the same thing with all the rc stuff that i buy...I did the same thing to my savage .25 rtr when i got it...It just stayed in the box for a few weeks before i really started to do some work on it...

Well guys, I figured out why my .46 hadn't been running right. About 4 tanks and having the compression go down to the point where it doesn't hurt to start the engine, I got suspicious. So I took apart the engine to inspect i and see the cause.

I'm trying to get in contact with HB and see if they can give me a new engine or a rebuild. Right now I can't afford a $100 rebuild. Hopefully i'll get it under warranty.

Kwong - Your picture is really out of focus, I could not see what was wrong with it. Could you re post the picture? I am very interested because I have a truckzilla too.

OK. I don't get it...

What is wrong with that piston and sleeve? They look OK from the picture?

dude, piston shouldnt go past the top of the sleeve easily, or at all. but then again, on all airplane/heli engines, they take some 2-3 gallons to break in and they dont have compression like the .21s and under do, they use actual piston rings. dunno abotu that particular .46 tho. but read up on airplane engines, theyre 2 strokes but, different...

looks wicked kwong.
