Cool ride. Definitely fast. Maybe you just need an onboard night-vision camera.

Now you just need to do serious jumps! With that speed you will be able to clear outrageous lengths!!

Well, 3 tanks into it and the first thing to go was the clutchbell.

Here's a tip, don't believe everything you hear or read.

All I can say is, the HPI clutch bells are NOT hardened. The spur on the lightning is, and you can see below what happens when you put the two together with a Picco cranking out the horsies.

This was after 3 tanks, and it was NIB when I put it on. So, I had to put the stock 14t back on it (which shows very little wear on it, and has a bunch of time on it as well). Top speed is gonna suffer, but I'll end up getting another 17t or 18t bell sometime soon.

Anyone recommend a good hardened bell that big?

Damn man. I am alomst afraid to put in a WRX Picco 26 in my MGT. Almost that is..What about ofna Clutchbells? what did the spur gear look like?

The spur only has normal wear, which was exacly like it was before I put the 18t on. I think the HPI CB's are really meant to be run on composite spurs and are not really all that hardened.

I'm thinking about getting the Picco Outlaw 26 myself for my maxx. My OS 21 RG died and I'm looking for a suitable replacment.

Let us know how the engine holds up.

It's been an awesome engine. I had it in my savage, but moved it to the Lightning yesterday.

the only problem I had with it was the LSN. It came with the Silver one, and that's the wrong one. The black one is the right one. The silver one makes the midrange slobbering rich and causes problems.

Have you thought of getting a whole new carb assembly?

Casue Ofna sux. I really have no idea, but it was a big issue, and I think it still is.

I think the Orion Wasp 26 is the exact same engine, just branded different, and I have not heard anything of the sort about them. The Black LSN is pretty cheap at Nitrohouse, but it's just a pain to have to order a part for a new engine. And Murphy says, if you order both, you won't need the second LSN (it'll be the right one the first time).

I frankensteined the picco carb, gene spliced it with the barrel and LSN from a 21BB engine. had to mod the idle adjustment slot in the barrel a bit, but it works fine now.

I guess I could have ordered another carb type, but what fun would that be?

Dr Frankenstein in da House..were there any leaks at all from your lil experiment? Did you need to seal it with any silicone at all?

Nah, the barrel was a perfect fit in the carb housing. And I used the purple boot from the 21BB, since the picco one didn't work right on the 21bb barrel. All I did to the idle adjustment slot was extend it toward the linkage side by a couple mm with (you got it) a Dremel tool. I think I used a cutoff diskto do it, and alot of trial and fit. You can always take more off, but ya can't put it back on.

So far, it'll go from idle to WOT in an instant, and the midrange is pretty darned good. And it was a freebie, since I gutted the carb on a cooked 21bb.

any chance of you going to a larger CB? Maybe squeeze out some more power?

What do you mean I am doing that already!LOL yeah only if it is in my real car.

I actually think he wants a transformer buggy that goes about 100 then transforms into a plane and takes off then transforms into a falling object imbeding itself in the ground.

That'd be nice, but I don't think it's possible. The only way I could gear it up anymore is to put the optional 44t spur on the center diff and put another 18t CB on it. I don't think I could fit anything bigger than 18 on, but there is always a chance. The only other way to get more speed is to get more RPM. Topped out at 47mph with the 18t CB, the rpm sould be right at 30K. The Picco 26 is rated at 37K, but I just can't seem to get it past 30K in this setup.

Here's a spreadsheet I did to calc speed and engine rpm for anyone that's interested. It's set up for the lightning, but it'll work for any buggy or truggy that has the same drive train setup. I'm planning on doing one for the T-Maxx and Savage (but I'll need some gear info for the Maxx since I don't have one).

Buggy speed and engine rmp calculator.
