What's the realistic loaded peak RPM of a Picco Outlaw 26? It'll be going in a buggy running an 18t clutch bell. That's probably loaded, but what would be a relistic top RPM with this set up, and we're talking ball park. I know the rated high end is 37K, but that's not what I'm looking for.

Thanks

I would expect around the low 30,000 rpm rage for the max output. They are designed to give low end through mid range power.

Thanks Strech, that's good to hear. I was hoping that it would at least be 30K, anything more is a bonus.

I did the gear ratios and wheel rpm and vehicle mph calcs in a spread sheet earlier. Given that I put the Picco in the Lightning, with an 18t CB and it turns 30K with 4.75" dia wheels, I should be getting speeds around 50 mph, if the R's get up to 35K it'll be doing just shy of 60mph. Granted this is theoretical speeds, so I'll be interested in what the Venom speedometer that I just installed says.

Thanks again

Let us know please. I'm considering putting one in my SUT.

Update:

Well, I got it out and fired it up. And all I can say is WOW. Well, WOW after I changed out the glow plug and retuned it so it would'nt die when I gave it throttle, that is.

Here's what I did.

Pulled the Picco out of the Savage and took most of it apart to do a cleaning and maintenance. Douched out the 1 way and the backplate area (the 1 way works good as new now, it was slipping before). I put the stock head back on and removed 1 head shim. Mine came with 2 .001 shims and 1 .0005 shim. I removed one of the .001 shims, and the compression is insane.

I had to do some creative mods to the outside lower motor mount to get the 18t CB and engine to fit, but it can be done without sacrificing the integrity of the lower mount. Dremel saved the day again.

Getting the beast started and running was a real pain. First, I had been running the wrong friggin plug for who knows how long, and the HSN was nearly 2 full turns out of being on the rich side of running. Every time I would get to 1/2 throttle, it'd die. The temp clued me in, it was'nt even getting to 175.

To make this a bit shorter, I got it tuned to the point where it's on the rich side of the range and it accelerates very well, then hits the pipe and really picks up. I can't wait to get it tuned for performance. I think raising the compression had alot to do with it too. Anyway, I was running in the street in front of my house, and traffic is pretty light, but sometimes people fly by. So I didn't want to get too far away before I had it dialed in, so I had about 150' total to play in. Getting up to speed took about 100', then I had to brake to turn around, so keep that in mind.

So, without further adu, here's the pix to back it all up:

38 MPH at 216 f

Nice. I didn't know you owned a buggy. Did you just get it?

Oh btw I think your date and time is justa little off on your camera. "Date: 11/30/02 12:00 AM" hehe.

Nice Error, now dial it in and let us know how it really performs.

Yeah, I've had the lightning RTR for a while, just now getting into maxing it. Can't reall call it a RTR version anymore though. Engine, radio, other electronics, swaybars, diff oil, tires, have all been replaced.

And I can't ever seem to keep the friggin camera to hole the right date and time. My other cam does it too. Both also reset the name back to square 1 when it looses the date and time.

Don't worry, I will (on both accounts).

I still don't have a CD player in it, buttt....

XTM failsafe
MIP onboard temp gage
Venom speedometer

Jr XS-3 radio
HT-645MG steering
crappy assed HPI throttle servo.

Better yet, one of those data collector things. I think there's a car version.

Hey I got a gps module you can drop in it just in case all safety features crap out on you!!. YOu can track it really cool!!!

Another update.

Ok, so I'm sitting here and it's about 8:30 and the phone rings. It's my bud Phil. He just converted his E Maxx to nitro and needed help with breaking the engine in. I'm like, uh, sure, so we decide to meet at the Civic Center in about half an hour. I grab up the Lightning and the field box , the camer and the video camera, and head out. We get the Maxx fired up on it's first tank and let it do it's thing. Then I get the Lightning out and prceed to tweak it out.

At 250 this thing is unbelievable. I registered 47 mph on the VSM. It was way faster than the POS 4-Tec I have. I was like holy crap. One time I nailed the gas and attempted to do a doughnut. What happened was that it went about half way round and flipped on it's lid. This was from a dead stop and it ended up about 5' from start to sliding finish. I can't wait to get it on some dirt.

Here's the proof pix.

The funniest part was the last run I made. WOT at about 50mph heading strait towards us and the fuk'rs at the civic center turned the lights off. I got that on video. I gotta dump it, but I'll post it soon.

LOL man you have got some BIG nuts!!! What don't you like to run in the dark :D . Nice work

P.W.

LMAO...great video, and very very very fast moving buggy. Nicely done. Next time, put the autofocus on...that will help keep things in proper view. =devil

That is badass! What gearing are you using? those tires must be toast!!! Nice vid!!!

Gearing:

CB: 18t
Main Spur: 46t
Diff input: 13t
Diff spur: 43t

gear ratio: 8.45:1

If the VSM is accurate, the engine RPM should be right at 30K.

I'm ticlked pink about it. I'll have to get it on some dirt and see what it does, but I do see a ramp in the near future for this thing.
