I didn't have much practice on this track and I barely had time to put run in.. I had the same problem pitting as Jeff. I think if I had time to make my other two runs I could have added a few laps but not enough to overtake 3rd.

This is fun so far, except it's a typical video game. The AI cars can get away with anything and keep going but I get wrecked every time!

It it's taking you upwards of a minute to pit, you are actually better off running out of gas and pressing the space bar. You will be taken directly to the pit to refuel.

Also, don't pay attention to the AI cars if they are lapping you. They will find there own way around you and believe it or not, they won't try and pass unless they can get by cleanly.

I figured I would try to pit before running out this time. I usually run out just before reaching the start line. Then while pitting,I was trying to do some math in my head to see how laps I could make but, having come in still running it didn't make the restarting sound when it was done. Then I looked down and CRAP! I'm just sitting there!

I keep my finger mashed on the trigger once I start refueling. As soon as I am set down, I am off.

Rookie racer = rookie mistakes! If you look at the lap before the 1 min pit lap, that's a 40 sec botched pit attempt :hehe:

BTW Josh, I like The Chronicle Post, nice write up. Good work

I hate the speedway.

Thanks Randy, I try very hard to do the write up along with the timesheet every monday morning. I really enjoy doing the write up. It allows me to build the race in writing as if it were actually run live, just by analyzing the numbers. At least that's the intention.

C'mon Rob, all you have to do is turn left. :)

I spend an hour yesterday messing with setup go I can take the un-banked turns carrying more speed. Nothing is working. I either have to coast in and power through or brake hard at the beginning and hammer it coming out. Both are costing me anywhere from .5 to a full second at least.

I know that high 6 second laps isn't going to get it done.

What really pisses me off is that I lost the setup for the car I used last year.

You wanna try my setup? It's somewhat neutral. I could email you the file. I actually have quite a few of them I think for different track conditions. A couple years ago I think I drove a setup of jeff's and his driving style is waaay different than mine. He likes his car well on the loose side.

Thanks for the offer, but Vista won't let me put a setup file in the program file of VRC unless I go through some ownership BS which I don't want to deal with.

I worked on it for another hour yesterday. I am consistent with laps ranging from 6.8 to 7.2 seconds with an occasional 6.5 pulled out of my arse. My best lap is 6.2. All with no AI cars of course.

Not sure how much more I can do with setup. I am going to mess with blade angles a little and see if that helps. Otherwise I am going to focus on being consistent and try and make sure I don't have to pit more than 2 times during the 15 minutes.

Anybody lay down some times yet?

I have since realized I was practicing with 100% grip and not 98% like the actual race. Boy does that 2% make a difference. Best I can do at 98% is 6.8 with no AI's.

I think I may do some practive after get out of the shower here in a bit.

...15 minutes on only 3 tanks of fuel is stretching it quite a bit from what I remember. Isn't 4 minutes about average at Speedway?

You are right.

I can't go much past 4 minutes without running out of fuel. 3 pits stops it is then.

In my 15 min practice runs, 2 pits did the job.

more speed = more fuel, you'll get there.

I think I probably didn't need to but did anybody notice I pitted 3 times at Oslo? After I put the timesheet together and noticed nobody else pitted 3 times I realized I probably didn't either. I was sort of basing my pit stops on my 10 minute practice runs.

Best I could manage is 6.92 seconds. I can knock out consistant 7.00 with no traffic. I should be able to better that though. I know Jeff can put down a 6.6 or .7

First practice: 40 laps avg: 7.54

All my practice has been with no AI's.

Last night I put 6 of them on the track and was consistent 7.0 to 7.3 with an occasional 6.9 thrown in. When it goes bad though, it goes real bad.

Ran out of fuel at about the 4:15 mark on the 2 runs I tested.

I need to practice the pit stop. I either miss the mark (why can't anyplace between the yellow lines count for shits sake), overshoot, or go in way too slow being overly cautious.

I'll have to post up some soon. I was tweaking a bit the other night and I'm consistently in the high 6's. But with traffic that will change. So it looks like it might be a matter of whoever is the more consistent this week.

And pitstops suck. It's been something a lot of people have complained about. Because no all the pit box is active. You have to be right on to get the yellow circle. Then hit the fuel. If you overshoot, you're dead. Gotta go back around. So it's a good idea to practice them beforehand.

Yeah, pit road is very narrow here. As far as activating the pitstop, you need to be on the closer half of the pit stall to get it to activate. Getting a fast pit here is tricky and certainly takes some practice. I used a setup last night that I had for 95% grip from last year but it's not a very good setup for this event. I'm still not as comfortable as I once was here and that just takes track time but my car is not handling very well at all.

Well, I fiddled around with some setup after a few short practice runs and I think I have something that is driveable. It's not a fast setup as it doesn't seem to let me dip down to below 7.0 very much but it's somewhat forgiving. I'm still a little tight on exit but I've gotten so used to sliding the nose on exit that I find it hard to get away from. I find that if I put down a good lap I smoke the AI cars but if I screw up an entry I have to be very cautious of traffic getting into the following corner. I've had small bursts of side by side racing a couple times during practice.

Sounds cool Josh. I'm planning on putting a run down tonight. I have to get geared up for these marathons so I can only run them sporadically. I have to practice with AI on the track. My current setup gives me consistent 6.7's or so. But I have to be ready for on-track traffic.
