Does anybody else have issues with uncontrollable hand shaking when they are finished putting a run down? This has always been an issue for me. I always end up with a sore left wrist (shudup...) after putting down some times due to my inherent nature of putting a death grip on my radio. Also, my wrist tends to bend downward which makes it real tough as well. I swear I look like I have Parkinsons Syndrome when I'm done racing. It's crazy.

Well boys, that's it! Testing is complete and it's obvious the competition is going to be much tighter this year, and with that - Welcome to the 2009 season!

Round 1 is underway and all competitors will have an entire week to put in their best effort in an attempt to capture as many points in the 2009 opener as possible. It's a 20 minute race at famous Oslo, where the track temperature is mild so laptimes should be quite low through this first race of the year. Oslo can be a tricky track with fast left-hander near the front and end of the lap which is very line sensitive and an off-camber carousel in which a good exit is possibly the best place to pass on the Norwegian circuit. Everybody will be sure to setup so they can mash the gas as soon as possible getting onto the back stretch. Oslo always makes for great racing and this week should prove no different. Welcome to Club VRCNT. Green, green, green!

Race #1 for the season has started.

Has anybody put down any runs yet?

I will try and log a run this evening.

I have not done anything yet. Most likely I won't do a run untill the weekend. I'll probably just practice when I can throughout the week and put down one good run sometime on Saturday when the kids are napping. Unless I totally blow it that's probably all I'll do. I don't want to get into the habit of trying to one-up myself. If I practice a little and make my run without any interruptions from the family I should be able to put down a solid time the first time.

Cripes!

At the 15 minute mark my transmitter hand started to go numb. I tried to resolve it, but it wasn't working. Eventually lost the feeling in my trigger finger which made it real tough. I basically was just trying to get around the track any way possible the last 3 minutes of the race. Probably cost me 3-4 laps at least.

ouch. I'm sure you'll be able to top that though. I still havn't got any practice in yet. Been sort of a busy week and I had to work today. Now I'm gonna go work out in the yard. I think I'll do some practicing tonight.

I just looked at your run Rob. I'm surprised to see I'm not as far off as I thought but running with traffic is messing with me. I'm going to try to put down a run later tonight.

never got around to any practice last night but I did a couple short runs today so far. I put on my Oslo setup from last year and it was just stupid loose for the grip level this week. I made a couple small adjustments and put in a second 10 minute test which was much much more comfortable and predictable. I think maybe 2 more test sessions just to familiarize myself with my breaking zones and turn-ins, then I'll be ready to race.

Round 1 - Oslo

It looks like Lessen will be picking up right where he left off last season... Dominating. In a showing of all out speed Lessen picks up his first win of the 2009 season by absolutely obliterating the field with a 5 lap win margin over second place Robmob. Rob wins the consistancy award (if there is such a thing) for the 2009 opener with a rating of 95.80%. Candyman was the only racer who was coming moderately close to touching Lessen's laptimes but a consistancy rating of nearly 5% lower kept him from the top step of the podium and 40 second pitlaps would eventually cost him second place as well. However, the race for runner-up was not all in the bag for Robmob. While Lessen pulled away from the wave of the green flag and never looked back, Candyman pulled out to a quick lead over then third place Robmob within the first few laps and stayed there until a botched pit on lap 24. Even with the slow pit stop Candyman was right on Robmobs bumper as he trailed by a mere four tenths of a second after lap 25. With a low comfort level plaguing Candyman, Robmob was able to maintain his position in front of Candyman over the next 6 laps until he had to give up the second position to enter pit road. While the veterans battle for podium spots there was also a good race for fourth as the sophomore Savagefan04 attemps to fight off rookie Racer_1966. Candyman wasn't the only driver having pit issues. Racer_1966 also suffered a very long pitlap around the same time and SF4 only lost slightly less time with a 35 second stop. Unfortunately, after a one minute pitlap and his slowest lap of the race, Racer went from a 25 second lead on lap 20 to chasing SF4 who was now 10 secnods ahead only two laps later. Back at the front Candyman is again up to his old tricks. As he regained composure he managed to build up a fair lead with his quick laptimes but again suffered from another 40 second pitlap on lap 44 in which he lost second position again. At the end of the day the fall down/catch up secenario for Candyman just didn't work out as Robmob proveed that sometimes slow and steady certainly does overcome.

Post looks good, Josh. Honestly, I ran that run on about 5 minutes of practice. I know I told you I might be out for the season, but things at home are better and I should be able to race. I put up my time just so I had points for now. But I have to admit, pit road sucks at Oslo. Both times going in I buried the nose of the car into the rail and had to reset just to get in. Plus, running with no practice, I didn't have any rhythm. So for just throwing in a run to make sure I had points, I am very happy with 3rd place.

This week is Speedway. Time to light it up!

Really glad to have you onboard Jeff. I thought you probably didn't put much practice in. I did three 10 minute sessions yesterday, one of them just before I put my run down. My car setup from last year was wicked loose so after my first test I opted to change from medium-soft rear springs to just soft and I also went up 2 notched on rear sway bar to compensate for the loss of feeling. It was still loose but I really had to mash the throttle for it to turn around. All the time I went off track weren't too bad. Never enough to need marshaling fortunately. I actually like the pit-road at Oslo, I feel like it's easy to get into and getting back out onto track give you nearly the same entry speed going into the left-hander as if you were coming from the track and not the pits. I really liked my setup but my car is horrible for the fast left/right past the finish line. My car is setup too soft to get through there well, but I can beat the AI cars everywhere else. If I do pass in the final corner I sometimes lose that spot again in the middle of the fast section because I have to lift too much.

I was actually going to put down a final run last night.

I made a few changes to the setup and was able to drop lap times in practice to the sub 17's and high 16's. My consistency dropped with the increase in speed, but I was going to give it a go anyway.

Then I saw that Jeff came in just under me and figured he would not try again given there was only 2.5 hours left in the session and he is on the East Coast which means it was pretty late there. With the new format of the last run being the one that counts, I opted not to temp fate and just kept my 2nd run since at best I would only improve by maybe 2 or 3 laps which was not going to overtake 1st.
