You don't need to race in them, but should to get in the habit and for the experience. Right now we are only running practice races every week until the season starts. It's nice to lay down some time though so you can see how you stack up to the competition. Practicing off-line is vastly different to actually participating in an event. Everything seems to feel different. The AI's, track grip and even your mindset seems to change.
When the season starts, there will only be one race per week.
Since Speedway is visited the most in the season, I chose to have a Speedway practice race along with a random road course running every week leading up to the season.
Speaking of the season.....here is the tentative race track schedule.

Grips and durations will vary. I can tell you that the season finale at Speedway will test your endurance.
One thing to keep in mind is that although you get 3 tries at each event, only your last good try is what counts. Not the best of the 3 attempts. This brings a little race strategy to the table. Can you or can you not better your last attempt?
One piece of advice to all racers. Always finish the race you started and log a time. If you hit esc and end your race early, you will log a DNF and if it's your final run, that is what you will keep. DNF = 0 points
