I just bought an RC8T and AE's electric conversion kit from tower hobbies. A new track about an hour away from me opened up recently and I plan on bringing this to there new indoor track. I need a race worthy brushless system to slap in this beast, I was thinking about going with Tekin RX8 with there 2650 kv sensored motor. Will this be a good setup to use for racing?

all i can say is listen to greywolf :)

Thats what most of the guys I know that race buggies and Tekin run. I bought a 2650 on 4S for my Losi 8ight and the guys at the track told me it was fine for bashing but too fast for the track.

Well, that was easy...

The build was completed in less than a day. All that is needed now is a motor and esc, and this thing will be ready to race. :first_place:

Not to start a conflict of interest but I would stay away from the tekin esc's....The motors are great, esc not so much. I know to many and have read about to many people that have had them die.

Hobbywing makes some really nice combos for 1/8th scale, I am running a 2000kv sensorless hobbywing setup in my buggy and compared to my buddies sensored 2050kv tekin well I would say (aswell as him) that the hobbywing performs just as good if not better.

It's harder to find there systems but they are worth it! Hobbypartz and Falconsekido are two places I know for sure you can get them and ebay is another. The xerun 150a esc and whichever motor of your choice.

BTW I love the RC8T, wish I had one.....I'm jealous

I would agree with override. I have read bad things about Tekin ESC's like the RX8. They make great motors though. I have read many great things about the Hobbywing stuff and how much value, quality, and performance you get for the price. I also like Novak's offerings too. I have been messing around with my Novak Havok Pro SC ESC before I left home and its real simple to tune. My 2wd Slash with the Novak is pretty fast.

the issues that were reported were with their first release of the rx8, the 4 hole version (the most obvious difference between the 2 versions are the mounting holes on the bottom) 4 hole versions had issues, but if you look most people that said their rx8 was bad, reported no problems with the new 3 hole revision that tekin released.

Thanks for the heads up override, but now you got me worried. I really want to go with tekin, but if there is the chance of the esc dying on me, I don't want to risk it. I will look at novak and hobbywings esc's first.

I have not paid attention to the different versions of the esc's so you may very well be correct :)

Check out the clickys on my first post...I will say, if it means anything to you, that hobbywing has a good reputation for there esc's. In my opinion they are some of the best for 1/8th scale. They are actually 8th/5th scale esc's so I imagine that's why you don't hear of them dieing in 8th scale. They can run sensored and sensorless and are very easy to program with or without a program card. The only flaw I know of on them is the power switch can't be cut off. I don't see alot of people that run there motors but the ones that do say they are almost just as smooth as a sensorless motor. I know the one I have is over a year old and I have kept the bearings oiled on it and clean it out every once in awhile. It is still going strong! Just make sure you go with XERUN not EZRUN.

Go with tekin rx8 and 1900kv, i run this setup on my buggy,STUPID FAST on 4s, the 2050kv and higher motors are very battery hungry as well. 2050kv on 4s only lasts about 6 mins, not enough to make it thru our main.

What size batteries are you running?

Wow 6 minutes out of that battery, I get a lot longer out of mine with a 2200kv motor on my maxx. Hard non-stop running I get about 15 mins, 30 mins just putting around. If you run the 2050kv 4068 motor you would get a better run time compared to the 2050kv 4274.

I get 14-16 minutes of race time with that battery on 4s with my 1900kv. I guess different people get different times, i never get 30 minutes out of any of my brushless rigs.

This is true. The original 4 holes were problematic. I own 4 RX8s (3 Holes) and I would not hesitate to buy more. The dual drive mode alone makes having a Tekin combo indispensable on the track and its even nice for bashing :)

I also own 5 Tekin motors and you can't beat em. Tekin electronics are just simply the best IMO. Hobbywing is fine for bashers on a budget but if you're racing or you want better than I would recommend tekin everytime.

I'm back on board with Tekin. I can't wait to see what all the hype is about with the dual drive. I will be ordering an RX8 and 1900kv motor on my next payday. :D

With all the talk about the new esc design I might try one out myself, it would give me a better layout on my buggy. The dex408 has some tight quarters under the lid.
