Hey, I just got a used RC10GT that I bought a new glow plug and igniter for, and I can hardly get it started. I am trying to start it in 65 degree weather up here in minnesota today. I try loosining the glow plug and tighting it after started but that only works some of the time. I check to make sure that my plug isnt blown, but thats fine. I think the reason is that I am trying to start it in such cold weather and it is not tuned properly. Once I get it started, I tune it so that a little smoke comes out the exhaust, and it runs good once that. If I tune it so that it is "running rich", then will it start easier? Thanks

If you richen it when it is cold and start it from there then you will get the popeye arm. In cold weather I use a sock over the head once it is up and running. For cold starts I would suggest heating the head up a little with a Hair dryer till it is warm. Have you messed with the needles a lot? You may want to reset them.

try setting your throttle trim where the throttle body is open 1/4" inch. i have to do it every time even when the truck dies and its 250 degrees at the plug. may just not be getting anough gas to the carb to initially start the thing.

dude get a bump start fixes yanking in a cord
or i recomend getting a roto start

ok, what I try when I reset the needles is, i make the bottom one flush. I then take the top one and turn it all the way in, and do 2 full turns out. As for getting enough gas in the carb I dont know. I can see gas going into the exhaust pipe from the tank, but I dont see any going into the carb. Thanks.

wait a minute. IAre your lines routed right? as far as HSN , try 3 turns out. How is your gap?WHen you apply the brakes does it shut close or stay at 1mm?

hey, when I did 3 turns out, it was close to flush. I dont know what you mean how far was it out (shut or close). If anyone has AIM that can help, my sn is imbroke13. I'm me and we'll talk.

The factory settings on the stock engine is

HSN: 2 1/2 turns out

LSN: 2 to 2 1/2 turns out.

Once i did this to my gt, it worked wonders. I could not get the damn thing started, but i set it back and ntuned from there. This engine is a little screamer if you tune it right! I would've never known.

hey, I'm a noob and I'm not sure where the hsn and lsn are. Please help. Thanks

yea, I have 2 pipes going into some part of the tank and then one going to the carburator through a small tube. I then have a pipe going from the top of the tank and going into the exhaust pipe (top hole) is that not correct? Thanks
-Pat (redhatman)

Sounds right.

Top of the fuel tanks lid to the pipe.

Why did you say gas was going into your exuast then?

Hey, because when i open and close the gas tank cap, fuel goes through the line that leads to the exhaust. Isnt that normal? Thanks

I have a HPI T-15 and am getting a similar issue. Outside temp is about 55 degrees. The engine will not start. Fuel is going through I can see that. Have tried making the low end very rich. Glow plug is orange. So it should start.

Like you I also noticed some droplets of fuel in the pipe that connects the tank to the exaust. Does this imply that I'm running a bit too rich??

I am going to heat the engine with a blow dryer and see if that helps.

Holy old thread, batman!

All kidding aside, if your low end is too rich, it may not start. Try upping the idle a hair (hold about 5% throttle) while you start it. Make sure it's off the ground, and to let it go back to idle as soon as it starts.

It seems as though I'm having the same problem here. It will start if I add a few drops of fuel directly into the carb but won't stay running on its own. I'm a complete newb when it comes to this but I had it running great yesterday.

Check for pressure leaks in the fuel system. Look at the fuel lines and see if you see air bubbles.
