  1. Bashing
? Which chassis or platform do I use for my Rally Brat?

Goals

  • Custom DIY build
  • Off- and on-road basher inspired by the gymkahana Brataroo.
  • Durability and drifting are base requirements.

I already have the body, so the use & dimensions are the main constraints.

Budget: $500 - $1000 all-in including chassis, electronics (including a transmitter as I don’t have a multi-car one yet), wheels & tires, decorative elements (lights, roll cage, etc.), etc.

Terrain: I know it’s basically impossible to get a best of both worlds in one setup, but I’m looking for a balance. I’ll consider tuning for the surface of the day if I can get set up in under 20 mins.

The body
Parma Brat Body Dimensions:
  • Wheelbase 9.5” 241.3mm
  • Width: 7” 177.8mm
  • Total length: 16” 406.4mm
The wheelbase and width are the physical constraints. I’m fine with whatever wheel to body alignment I end up with - inside, aligned, or even fully outside the body.

Some images for inspiration.
First, a stock image of the body.

Platform / Chassis
I’d like a kit, but it’s not a hard requirement. These are the options I’ve identified that kinda fit the body:
  • Rlaarlo XTS Rally
  • Rlaarlo Omni Terminator
  • LC Racing PTG-2R
  • Tamiya XV-01 or 02 Pro
  • Arrma Vorteks / Granite (monster truck look)
I like the idea of Tamiya kits and the huge ecosystem, but I’m inclined to eliminate them for durability and ground clearance.

And I’ll eliminate Arrma because they are pure bashers - even if I assemble parts from nothing it probably won’t drive like a rally car. (but I am completely comfortable with that chassis at this point)

Right now the Rlaarlo XTS F10 roller is the lead contender.

What do you think, RC Talk?

My pick would be the LC Racing. Every review I've ever seen of LC Racing, ppl here all speak very highly of the quality and excellent finished RC.
I would also be looking at a Kyosho Fazer chassis.
I like the Associated 959 car too but I have no reviews to back that up. I just like it and would put it on my list.

The Brat body has always been a favorite of mine. Great choice for a unique project!!! :thumbs-up: 😁
