I'm still a fan of giving the teams more freedom on what they can do to their cars. if a guy wants to sacrifice handling for speed let him see what he can do. I can see a standard tire etc, but NASCAR issued shocks etc. gets a little ridiculous.

It's becoming spec class racing, and look what happened to IROC, it's gone.

I can't wait for the Saturday night short track season at Riverhead Raceway to start up again in May. I love watchin the Modifieds on the 1/4 mile oval, or the late models, or stockers, good ol grass roots racing at it's best.

Joe, do you think Nascar will ever be able to get their big New York plan off the ground? And does anybody over there actually give a poop?

No, I don't think they will ever get a track here. They had originally planned for one in Staten Island, yeah, right. The traffic on a regular day is a nightmare, now add another 80-100 thousand people, it aint happening. Eastern Long Island might work, there is still a good bit of land way out east, but all the tree huggers aint gonna let that happen out here. I am worried each season will be the last season for Riverhead. It is the ONLY track left on long island. West Hampton drag strip, gone, Freeport Raceway, gone, Islip Speedway, gone, it's really a shame. I do think there would be fans though to support a race, well at least until the novelty wore off anyway. Nascar is actually bigger here than I thought it would be.

That's interesting to me. Nice choice of word. I've been under the assumption that it would very much be a novelty as well, just as the parade is. I can't imagine any large amount of those people that come out to watch the cars parade around New York City are true hardcore Nascar fans. Of course there are a good plenty who are but I highly doubt a large percentage are there to support the sport rather than simply attend another New York event.

Don't forget the awards banquet is held in NY, and because they actually drive the cars through Manhattan it has peaked interest from people who may have otherwise never watched a race. Way out here where I live we got us a bunch of good ol boys, lol. Everyone thinks of New York, and immediately think the city. I am out in Suffolk county, out near the forks. It's a pretty rural area, well for NY, maybe not compared to Idaho, lol. But it is a lot of farm land, sod farms, and vineyards. I was surprised when I moved here, figured I would be one of a few nascar fans, but like I said, there are actually a lot more than I ever would have expected.

Wow, that's cool. I never would have thought. So there is enough interest, just issues with the politics of it all. I say just run a street course through Manhatten :) How FN cool would that be? It would be the Monaco of Nascar.

Nope, it was Jackass Busch's overly agressive selfish driving style that took out Scott Speed.

I agree 100%. Serves the jerk right! I just wish he didn't have to take out Speed in the process. It was even sweeter to see Harvick boot him out of the way in the truck race on Monday! Wish I could have seen it live! This is the new NASCAR..... where idiots like KB get to shine... back in the day... he would not have stood a chance.

I remember hearing something about a cut tire on the

oh ok, I remember what it was now. I noticed one time when the pack was coming around that Carl wasn't where I saw him last lap. I said something to my wife and she told me cut tire. I got incidents mixed up

A few years back I went to Martinsville and the group sitting right behind us were from NY, and they were all Gordon fans....That let me know that there are good people in NY :D

Well this should be an interesting weekend for me. Jaime had a horrible qualifty (36th) and both of the first two practice sessions showed mid pack speed, However, it looks like Donnie hit on something in final practice and the 26 was 4th on the charts. Now that's only one lap and I havn't looked at jayski's yet but I'm hoping for a solid run. Jamie races better than he qualify's at Texas anyways so this isn't much of a surprise although 36th is still rather poor.

On the F1 side of life Jenson Button is on Pole AGAIN. That is tooo sweeet! I can't believe the Ferrari just sat there and watched it all come falling down. I mean, at that level (of any sport).. since when do you just pack up and say 'that'll be good enough'? That kind of mindset is destined for failure and Ferrari deserves to start at the back of the pack with arogance like that.

NASCAR:
Jeff qualified P2. Another good show. Looks like he's at least getting more consistent setup. He just needs that extra twist of the wrench during the race to put him up front. He'll get a win soon. I am impressed by Reutimann. He's been fast this season. Unfortunately he's not very good when other cars are on the track. Suppose he'll have to sort that out pretty soon.

F1:
Brawn looks like the class of the field already. Ferrari and McLaren are scrambling and it's only the 2nd race. I'm fine with that. I want it to be more than a 2 team season. Trulli is a surprise also. I thought Toyota would be another no-show. Getting rid of Shumacher certainly helps. I was watching qualifying today and I can say that there aren't as many dogs in the field this year. There is certainly no Super Aguri sitting at the back of the pack every week. I have no idea how that team went from worst to best. Vettel looks racy. Nakajima. Kubica. All look like they're threats at any time. May just be a nice close season.

I'm very impressed with the F1 field so far. I'm actually not surprised by Trulli at all. Vettel is definitely going to be a star in this series. He really seems to be able to continually get more and more out of his car. I'm gonna hit the play button on the race here in a little bit...

the idea of a nascar sanctioned track on eastern LI is a pipe dream theres only one way in and out, not to mention where are you going to put all those people? as far as that there are are plenty of tracks you can make it to in a few hours time.

the biggest problem has been that all the straight line tracks have closed down here. now we have a bunch of guys with track cars who have no where else to go except to the streets or a big bill to get to a decent track. and now with all the kids and there damn riceburners street racing everywhere! i really hope that they open another straight track on the island because its getting to be way to expensive to get my car down to englishtown

Turned it off when Jamie's tranny went. I get too disgusted at mech failures like that to even bother watching further.

On the worldwide end of the spektrum. Button goes 2 in a row! How you like all that racing Jeff???? Now that's entertaining racing right there! Too bad they couldn't get it going again, but hell.. it was great while it lasted!
