Hey everyone, here's the plan: I have a machining background and I am planning on building a 48-inch wheelbase r/c dragster with a 2.3 cubic inch chain saw engine. This thing is going to HAUL and I estimate it will only weigh about 15lbs... go-kart clutch, #35 chain and sprocket, 1/2" thick axle, tmaxx slick tires, 1/4" aluminum plate chassis....

My question to you experienced r/c guys is this: Do you think this
2.3 cubic inch engine (2-stroke, spark plug ignition from the on-
board "coil", carburator with idle/low end/high end mixture screws) will run on 20% nitromethane (or any nitro blend for that matter)? Do you think it will run REALLY well? Do you think it will melt the motor? Do you think it will EXPLODE?!?!

It runs great on the gasoline/oil mix that it's meant for, but being
an NHRA fanatic, I MUST get the sound, smell, and power from this dragster that only nitromethane can provide...

If any of you have any ideas on this plan of mine, PLEASE let me
know!!!

Thanks a million!

Dude welcome to the board, but why do you want to jock FastEddys screen name? Thats like someone signing up as humboldblazer399. I suggest you change it but thats just my opinion. As for the Dragster I am going to build the Walbern with a .21 and hope to see excess of 100mph with a 3 speed tranny.

And that weed eater engine will not run right on Nitro and that sounds way dangerous.

yup. FastEddy is one of Gods own prototypes, one that's not meant for mass production.......

sorry...

I mean no disrespect to your God. :) At least I spell it differently!

Thanks for the feedback on the nitro chainsaw idea... I've heard a little about guys running nitro in their chainsaws for those "lumberjack competitions", but can't find any info on the web, so I thought I'd ask here... My gut feeling was that it'd be on the dangerous side, but thought I'd be able to get it to work.

If anyone else has any ideas on how to get this running, PLEASE let me know!!!! I *REALLY* don't want to scrap the nitro (and go back to gasoline) plan if I don't have to!!!

Thanks!

NP, didn't say he was our god, just one of his prototypes. Was probably an honest happening anyway. He is one of the moderators. Woodie is the RCNT God.

Anyway, I don't know about the whole nitro chainsaw engine idea. I've seen them on TV, but feeding that thing would be something unto itself. Gas engines do have the torque. I fly an X-Cell gas heli with a piped G23 heli engine. It has the intake velocity stack and literally yanks 12 lbs of carbon and aluminum strait up with no problem. It's all about the gearing.

But lb for lb the nitro has a definate advantage in the HP dept. But I'd weigh the risks of it blowing up over the increase in HP before you get into the project. Another thing to consider, if you're having a hard time finding info about thins on the net, then few (if any) people are doing it, for some reason or other.

You could probably run a Cam2/oil mix in that chainsaw motor. Sounds like an interesting project...

hey man, wipe your nose off, it looks a little BROWN

I should see if I can get a gentlemen on here by the name of Joe Kilian. He builds some of the most badass customs in the world. In particular, for pulling. If I'm not mistaken, he still holds the world title for best/biggest pull by an R.C.. He runs the modified gas, nitro and electrics. I was partying with a couple friends of his this past holiday and they were yapping about his drag cars so if I can get him here, it may help you.

The hunt is on........

Speaking off rc records....On tech TV today: New world record set 111mph RC car. More to come......................

Nope, just a really cool line from the movie "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas", but the names were changed.
