I recently "acquired" a rs4 3 evo car. i have never had an onroad car and have a few questions.

1. are all the "tourning car" springs the same size? or do they have to be hpi springs?

2. I'm just going to be parking lot bashing, maybe some drifting. what is a good starting setup?

3. any weak points on this car?

4. what mills fit? I'm thinking about an os .18 cvr. i know i will need motor mounts, but will everything else work (pipe, etc)

any other tips on these will be helpfull!!!

thanks!

I am not sure on a lot of that stuff, but I am in the process of fitting a Sirio .18tx to my rs4 3-evo. I tried the epic .18, but the pull start hangs too low, even for the pull start engine mounts. It just hits the chassis. I remember my old OS being the same way (big pull start). BTW, if you are using a side-exhaust engine, I have a new in box THS exhaust for it... Changed engines and never used it... PM me if interested.

Drifting is way fun with these things. Get some rims and cut some slices of 2" ABS pipe and drift away!!! Fun fun fun!

so you say the 18cvr wont fit? how much did you pay for the tx? i dont want to dump alot of money in this car because I'm not racing it. what mills fit?

and on the exhaust, got a pic or link, i may be interested.

beason, I suspect the CVR will fit. I have a CVR-X and I may just see if I can get it in there so you'll know. You'll have to use aftermarket mounts but the chassis is slotted so mesh will be easy. If you have an exhaust for a side exhaust engine it should also work fine. The only consideration is if you have to change between a slide and rotary carb.

As far as I know, most common TC springs are similar diameter and length. Tower usually lists their specs so you may want to reference them before you buy.

It's a good basher. As far as setup, I have mine on the stock set and it's ok. I guess since I'm not racing anyone, I've never seen whether it really handles ok or not. It has enough adjustability to give you freedom to work on it. For drifting, some ABS drift tires will help a ton. It's still going to have the engine in the rear which may affect how well it drifts, but it still should work ok. I might even try it this summer.

And lastly, I haven't really seen any glaring weak points. You can go out and beat it up just as much as any other car and it seems to be as durable as any.

what is the difference in the cv-r and the cv-rx? i have the cv-rx on my rc10 i think, and its a roto carb. the rs4 comes with a roto carb stock so it SHOULD work. the stock exhaust is side as well so i think that will be ok. do you have a link to the correct engine mounts?

i found a set of 10 ofna onroad springs for about 12$ shipped, but I'm unsure if they will fit. ( they dont have a size listed, and i cannot find them on tower)

and on another note, i didnt realize how many different bodys were available for these!! i can't decide which i want!!!

edit: i see the difference now, the rx is the pull start version. and it is a HUGE pull starter, candy if you can check it please let me know if it will fit.

I'll take a measurement from the bottom of the mount to the bottom of the pull start housing and let you know the max.

ok, i measured the cv-rx on the rc10 and from what i can tell its 20mm ( i dont have a good way to measure, hell i can't even find a ruler, I'm using a sewing measureing tape.... )

i found these mounts

they say there 20mm tall. you guys think these would work? it would be close.. i could put some washers under it if need be right?

found these too but there discontinued

edit: candyman, i noticed this car has adjustable uppers and turnbuckles all the way around, is this stock or upgraded?

I must have some weird mounts, they must be hotbodies mounts... Only 17mm tall and the sirio pull start clears the chassis by 1mm or less, but there is air underneath!

It will probably work for you. Washers should do it.

There are not adjust able turnbuckles stock, so you must have gotten lucky! Good luck!

so i would need those mounts, and some bevel washers and screws right? you got a link to the exhaust you have?

thanks for you time guys!

ok, I'm down to a rx pack and some springs, so i got a few more questions!!

1, will a flat pack, (like a revo pack) fit in the car? or do i need a "hump"

2, any suggestons on spring setup? I'm not racing but i want it to handle decent. it has purple in the front and blue in the back i think (at work can't go look) is this a good starting point?

3, does this car have sealed diffs or ball diffs?

4, when i took the mill apart, it had a bunch of gunk in it. I tore it down and cleaned it really well. With the piston and sleeve out, i could only push the piston up about half way into the sleeve befor it would stop (i lubed it first). Is that decent pinch?

thanks!!

The CVR dropped right in my RS4 with the same motor mounts and everything. I used the same pipe and just had to mess with the throttle settings to get it just right. I took the pullstart off and put a roto-start on without a problem its a tight squeeze but its worth it. Find some good sticky tires if you are going to be running on a parking lot.

please explain how you used the same motor mount? the "mount" is built into the engine block on the stock mill..

thanks!

i didnt see the evo. I have the kit car and the motor mounts are seperate from the engine

Beason, I installed a .12 CV-RX into one for a customer awhile back. The engine, bought new, came with a pair of spacers that went between the mount and engine. (roughly 1/8") I also used the HPI aftermarket engine mounts. Provided plenty of clearance for the pullstart as it is rather large. If you need these spacers I believe I still have a set in my pit box. Drop me a PM if your interested in them.
